@thievinganc Poverty could reset one's brain into negativity and unimaginable display and this is a typical example, look at what poverty has done to this brain
Camillia Beyers survived something no woman should ever have to experience.
Her former boyfriend, an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer, kidnapped her and severely assaulted her after their relationship ended. He beat her while driving, used his firearm during the ordeal and fired shots close to her.
What made this case even more frustrating was that the man she was trying to escape was himself a law-enforcement officer.
I became involved because the case was not being dealt with with the urgency it deserved. We pushed for proper investigation and accountability while Camillia had to obtain a protection order simply to try to keep herself safe.
Even after being released on bail, he continued harassing and intimidating her. He was eventually rearrested for violating the protection order, dismissed from the EMPD and ultimately convicted.
He was sentenced to an effective five years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Camillia survived.
But women should not have to fight an abuser and then fight the system responsible for protecting them.
When a perpetrator wears a uniform, accountability has to be stronger, not weaker.
