Friday morning briefing - 09/Oct/2026
Thursday's tech selloff is the story carrying into today. FT reported OpenAI's annualized revenue is roughly $50B, well below the $70B previously expected. The Nasdaq fell 1.25% β its worst day since mid-August β and the AI supply chain got hit: $NVDA -2.9%, $INTC -5.3%, $ORCL -5.5%, $MU -4.3%. AI-bubble chatter is building; one post flagged $NBIS -7%, $AAOI -14%, $ASTS -6% yesterday.
The $SPCX spectrum deal is still hurting telecoms: $T, $VZ, and $TMUS fell 6β7% after hours on the 800MHz Starlink Mobile deal and are still down about 6β7% premarket. Scotiabank cut targets across the group. On crypto, Treasury's Bessent said the US plans a ~$1B crypto seizure from Iran as part of "absolute isolation" β and the government also moved $1B in Bitcoin from the Bitfinex hack to an unknown wallet. $BTC is around $82.5K.
Other headlines: $Meta is banning TikTok ads on its apps (Bloomberg), and Bloomberg has hyperscaler 2027 capex at $1.2T.
Watch today: whether the AI selloff finds a floor, yields and oil into the weekend.
Bought $CRDO at $211.
Support sitting around $210, right where the 10 SMA (~$208) and 50 SMA (~$209) stack up.
AI connectivity play β retimers and DSPs riding the data-center buildout, revenue +115% YoY last quarter with 34% net margins.
Bought $INTC at $115.5
Buying the dip on the Musk-TSMC headline. Intel stays the primary supplier (14A process). Musk himself said TSMC would only be supplemental. Stock's up 223% this year.
Bought $APLD at $25.17
AI data center name consolidating for 2 months after the run. ~$36B in contracted leases (CoreWeave + hyperscalers), rental revenue compounding while lumpy fit-out payments roll off. Earnings Oct 7 β the headline revenue number will look ugly (~$135M est).
Daily Morning brief - 08/Oct/2026
Biggest story overnight is Samsung: record Q3 guidance, operating profit up about 783% year over year to roughly $80B. But chip stocks are weak anyway β NVDA, MU, AVGO down premarket, TSMC down 2% despite its own +54.6% September sales. Market's not rewarding semis this morning.
Premarket is red overall: Dow -0.8%, S&P -0.4 to -0.5%, Nasdaq -0.6 to -0.8%. The weight is rates and oil β the 10-year is near 5.34%, highest since 2002, oil is surging (Brent ~$105, WTI $92+) on Iran news: Trump reportedly no longer wants an Iran deal, strikes are being weighed before the midterms, and there have been shipping attacks in the Gulf and Hormuz. The September FOMC minutes landed hawkish, with most officials seeing another hike likely this year.
Watch today: jobless claims and Challenger data, Fed speakers, whether yields and oil stay elevated, and how APLD holds its post-earnings bounce into the open.
Daily morning update on stock market
**Bond yields spiking.** The 10-year Treasury touched ~5.35%, its highest since 2002. When yields run that hot, stocks β especially tech β reprice lower. There's also a $39B 10-year Treasury auction at 1pm ET today, which adds supply pressure.
**Oil jumping on Middle East escalation.** Houthi rebels attacked Saudi airports and military sites, plus Iranian attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. WTI is back near $90, Brent around $102. Higher oil = higher inflation fears = more rate pressure.
**Fed minutes at 2pm ET.** Today's release covers the September meeting where the Fed hiked for the first time since 2023. Markets are watching for any hint of another hike this year β currently priced at only 22% odds for the late-October meeting.
And context: the S&P500 and Nasdaq closed at records yesterday, so there's profit-taking on top of it. Asia and Europe are red too β Kospi -2%, Stoxx 600 -1%.

$GOOGL just signed 3.6 GW with $CEG β 890 MW nuclear PPA plus 2,700 MW long-term supply in PJM, $4.3B of investment.
$VST is the direct read-through: same PJM footprint, own nuclear fleet, and the conditional $4.2B DOE loan commitment for nuclear uprates.
There is some speculation about our partnership with Cerebras.
Cerebras is a close partner, and we have a deep engagement pushing on the frontiers of speed.
