1/ More than half of Austin residents are renters. And come tomorrow, rent will be due for tenants with cut hours, cut wages or no wages at all.
Here are 5 things renters should know. https://t.co/hmR0r8ndi4
One renter got an email that read: “Thank you for understanding the coronavirus pandemic in no way changes your legal obligations to pay your rent." My latest on what landlords are communicating to their tenants during COVID-19: https://t.co/NqhkoeUaZ0
Austin:
Me and my team compiled a guide for ATX resources and updates from local government that I’m sharing here. It’s a living doc, and will be updated whenever possible. Please share widely! #COVID19

Many tenants are struggling with loss of income right now. As of March 17, Travis County has suspended eviction hearings through May 8th. Writs of Possession have been suspended through May 13th. Williamson County has paused eviction proceedings until May 11.
Tenants should still pay rent if they are able to. While this order buys renters some time, a landlord will eventually be able to pursue an eviction judgment for nonpayment of rent or other breaches of the lease agreement.
At this time, a landlord can still issue a Notice to Vacate. A notice to vacate is not an eviction, and tenants do not need to vacate after receiving this notice. Tenants have a right to remain in their homes until a Writ of Possession has been executed.
