Okay, here's the thing. Remember. The Steam machine is not a console. It's a computer that can run any operating system you want to run on it. So Valve can't subsidize it with game sales or some large corporation will buy them out for workstations and gamers wouldn't get any of them.

With that said, here's how much it would cost me to build a Ryzen 5 8500G ITX system with an RTX3060. This is the closest hardware comparison I can get to with retail hardware.

This is hoping the AMD OEM cooler and the gigabyte 3060 will fit in the ITX case.

People that think the Steam machine is overpriced don't know what the AI tax has done to hardware in the last 6 months.

It's definitely not for everyone. But if you want a small form factor gaming PC and don't want to go through the headache of trying to find components that'll fit into a small case, it's actually not a terrible buy.
