A network is only as strong as the people who built it.
Project Manager Dr Graeme Wren played a pivotal role in bringing TeraNet-2 (TN-2) from the red dirt of WA’s Midwest to an operational optical ground station. His leadership through the construction challenges, from geotechnical design to coordinating the schedules of sub-contractors, was critical in delivering the final key piece of the TeraNet optical ground station network.
Graeme has now shared his reflections on the journey, from what it took to build TN-2, the milestones that mattered, and how Western Australia proved it can deliver world-class space infrastructure.

Western Australia is a growing hub for deep space communication 🛰️
The TeraNet team joined partners from @uwanews and @esa to celebrate the inauguration of the European Space Agency’s new 35-metre deep space antenna at New Norcia. This is a major milestone for Australia’s role in global space communications.
As part of ESA’s ESTRACK network, this new antenna will support missions journeying across our solar system, while TeraNet continues to expand Australia’s optical communications capability here on Earth.
Together, these projects showcase WA’s leadership in connecting space and ground infrastructure, building the future of high-speed, secure space communications.
