Hundreds of people gathered to protest the Trump Admin on Presidents' Day in Anchorage, part of a broader movement that saw protests erupting across the state.
An observer remarked in a disapproving tone "Merry Christmas" while relaying that despite subfreezing temperatures, the Municipality of Anchorage seems intent on abating the largest and most developed encampment in the city, referencing inside information and yesterday's HHC
BREAKING | Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance, others are appearing to show interest in the midwinter abatement of Davis Park and the snow dump site adjacent to it, where a large portion of Anchorage's unhoused population currently resides. Shelters are and have been at capacity.
@ValhallaTears @Drositor You've made claims that:
- The vehicle was not in his name
- This occurred under the LaFrance administration
- This man was notified of the impound date and time
Without any substantiating evidence. Your cynical opining does not logical deduction make. I'm not here to argue.
With regards to the impacts of the camp abatement process in Anchorage, here's footage from the abatement of Cuddy Park. This type of situation has occurred at every camp cleanup I have been present at. Some people do not survive losing their shelter.
@ValhallaTears @Drositor As has been told to you elsewhere, that man had not been served an impound notice and had not been present at that encampment when the abatement notices were posted. Your insistence on spreading your assumptions only serves as spreading misinformation.

@ValhallaTears @AKroadweed This abatement occurred more than one moth before Suzanne LaFrance was sworn in as mayor of Anchorage. This individual had not been served an impound notice, as he claimed he arrived after they had been distributed to other residents, having only been present a few days.

This clip of a camp resident who appears to have had important possessions thrown away, and being denied the ability to retrieve them by Anchorage Parks & Rec, also serves as an illustration of the level of police presence utilized for this abatement.
During the Fairbanks street abatement, Anchorage Police Department arrived in heavy numbers. Here an RV that was used as shelter is towed, appearing to suffer damage during the towing process. One of its residents broke down into tears. Abatement started earlier than posted.

At Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance's inauguration today, she spoke to issues of housing and public safety over the protest regarding multiple police shootings, which she said "...includes staffing up [Anchorage Police Department] and investing in trust and communication."
