Check out this excellent piece from @arielboone via @StSpiritNews on the overdoses crisis in Alameda County (with West Oakland Punks With Lunch cameo).
Deaths from overdose are preventable. It doesn’t have to be like this. #harmreduction https://t.co/DHJuzCoTvR
Every overdose is preventable.
We need safer consumption sites (SIS, SES) now, true and accessible mental health care, and *everyone* should always carry Narcan/Naloxone. #HarmReductionSavesLives
💯💯💯
And also, test strips can be complicated to use and don’t guarantee your drugs are free of fentanyl, so also:
-Examine your drugs, do they smell/taste normal
-start slow, u can always do more, but not less
-Use the buddy system and stagger use
-Always carry narcan! 🖤
We’re all adults here (adults who often throw tantrums) which means we ourselves or people in our lives choose to use drugs either occasionally or frequently. Everyone needs to be testing their drugs for fentanyl. Every time. Testing is harm reduction & not testing is killing ppl
Tenants rights news today:
@CalOrganize filed a *class-action lawsuit* against Mosser Companies in Alameda County Sup. Court
The suit hinges around hard-fought updates to the Oakland Tenant Protection Ordinance in July last year.

Five-fucking-hundred encampment evictions in two years in Oakland, thanks to @LibbySchaaf. Everyone on the ground knew she dramatically increased her cruel and pointless evictions, trashing property, past the point where advocates could keep up, but this number is still shocking
While Newsom pats himself on the back for SB91, the reality is it falls far short of protecting all California’s renters. As it stands now, too many tenants will be swept out in the wave of evictions if we don’t expand rent relief. https://t.co/vUoMKcwuiB
Ppl are completely misunderstanding accountability. Derek Chauvin has not been held accountable. He has been convicted. That’s not accountability. No one has taken any ACCOUNT. Neither he nor the system have apologized, expressed remorse or made any amends to change the system.
@meganasteffen Oh no! I’m so sorry Megan. This is heartbreaking news. Rabinow was why I chose to go to Berkeley. His classes, his guidance, and direction were invaluable to me. He had and still has an enduring impact on how I understand the world.
One would have to truly believe that poor people are stupid if the response to homelessness is as simple as laminating a list of hotline numbers and posting them up at an encampment.
It’s an insult to the intelligence of unhoused people that public officials consistently suggest the same list of resources that are supposed to solve everything— as though unhoused people haven’t already done that research, been through those shelters, exhausted those resources.
