Founded XJW Friends UK in 2007 to support ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. Manage support services for the ex-religious at Faith to Faithless; a service of Humanists UK
Gender apartheid in Afghanistan is horrific, women are now no longer allowed to ever talk to each other, let alone already not being allowed to talk to men.
I do not understand why what is going on in Afghanistan is not bigger news. Women now banned from “hearing other women’s voices” https://t.co/TVWg85VeE1
The last paragraph in this is utterly heartbreaking. She had to die all alone.
We treat our pets more humanely than we do people who are suffering as they die.
The law needs to be changed to be more compassionate.

I am proud of the work we have been doing at Faith to Faithless. It still always amazes me how little is known about the many difficulties and abuses people go through when leaving religions in the UK. Which is why this online conference is needed; to raise awareness. Book here:
Religious abuse & trauma often go undetected.
The abuse frequently takes place within closed-off, deeply private religious communities
Yet the damage lasts for decades
Now @faith2faithless' upcoming conference will shine a light on these hidden horrors

I'm a #HumanistBecause... in my religious upbringing as a JW I was not allowed to question anything and was hit if I did. When I went to uni and discovered humanism not only were curiosity and questioning allowed, they were rewarded.

I’m a #HumanistBecause defending our human rights has never been more important, and I support an inclusive and secular society that does not give privilege to one belief group over another.

Throwback Thursday:
A few years ago we had a wonderful panel of individuals with lived experience of leaving Christianity, talking about the questioning they went through, the rifts with family and friends, and the aftermath.

Theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili giving an explanation of Time. Apparently the GPS on my phone is time travelling. Don't ask me questions, I definitely could not explain that. 😬😂

@LucyPott_ Really moving @faith2faithless talk at #Humanists2024 in Cardiff. A powerful and impactful session that shed light on the often-overlooked experiences of religious trauma and the unique challenges faced by people who have left high-control religious groups.
At @Humanists_UK#Humanists2024 in Cardiff at a moving and illuminating talk on recovering from religious trauma and the lack of understanding in this country around the struggles of leaving high control religions
Listening to the warmth of Mark Drayford, former first minister of Wales, speak about the duty we owe to our fellow citizens, and not just the people we know. #Humanists2024
Great talk on the history of humanism and secularism in Wales by Madeleine Goodall at #Humanists2024 But zoom in on this quote by an early Welsh humanist. Can relate.
In Cardiff for #Humanists2024 convention. I got to deliver an Apostasy Awareness talk where I introduced the issues people face when leaving high-control religions. It's amazing to be around a community of people who care about this.
@JesseBering Probably none. If someone came back from the dead or was able to send a message I wouldn't believe it. I'd think they were a mentally unwell person
I was on BBC Radio 4 Sunday this morning talking about our helpline for people leaving controlling religions. I gave my exJW story and the JWs responded to say they don't shun, elders don't monitor members, and they are the most persecuted religion in the world. Insane.
Through Faith to Faithless, we help people who leave high-control religious groups. Here's former Jehovah’s Witness and one of three permanent employees at @faith2faithless, @Terri_OSullivan, speaking about our new helpline.
