this isn't even GETTING into the weeds about how Metroid games actually control (Most of my thoughts are from playing too much Super Metroid Map Rando but I do believe all of them follow the same controls with some deviance, obviously)
and THEN evolving that into "oh yeah, Space Jump? That requires spin jumping to activate too." and then "Ok, Wall Jumps? You gotta be spinning for that so be careful with breaking your spin by shooting!" It's just a really understated design aspect of the 2d games!
going insaneo style over this tonight. Spin Jumps are such a funny mechanic, genius shit. "Yeah a way the player can interact with the world is by moving left/right and then jumping, putting the player in a spin state that activates a specific upgrade." genius.
The difference between a normal jump and a spin jump is an important gameplay aspect of the 2d Metroids that you should be aware of! It's a fun design choice! It's been a series staple since the first one!!!

an extremely important aspect of Metroid and frankly any game that wants to copy it is that you can do spin jumps. I am not joking about this. This is a threat.
i think Metroid 1 is pretty good actually. I would need to replay Metroid 2 to have a better opinion on it outside of "I played it a lot as a kid and might've beaten it once? My memory is super hazy though. I remember liking it tho?" most other metroids are bangers tho
@S_A_F_I_PVNISH honestly, Metroid 1 is pretty solid if you can stomach the "you always start/respawn with 30 HP regardless of how much max HP you've collected" and can navigate similar looking locations or draw a map. tho really you can play most any metroid and have a good time!!
im getting over being sick with covid (thankfully was relatively mild overall for me) so im locking the fuck in and making another metroid 1 clone (or something)
@everymortalcare you tell everyone the red stains on your armor are the blood of your enemies but its actually just all the tomatoes that have been thrown at you for being the court jester
If you have ever actually had the uncomfortable experience watching people play on gambling machines, its very similar to how people play specific kinds of games outside of gacha games (which are gambling games inherantly)
