You do realize taxpayers subsidize public universities, right? Yet now we have “student-athletes” getting free or reduced tuition, premium housing, meals, travel, tutoring, and in many cases six-figure NIL deals — all while some barely attend class and are essentially functioning as semi-professional athletes.
At some point we need to stop pretending major college sports are about education first.
If athletes are going to be paid like professionals, then maybe universities — especially taxpayer-supported public schools — should stop subsidizing tuition and perks for athletes generating NIL income. Regular students take out loans, work jobs, and struggle to pay tuition while schools pour millions into athletics.
Nobody is saying athletes shouldn’t benefit from their talent. But calling them “student-athletes” while operating a professional sports business inside publicly funded universities is becoming harder and harder to justify.
Its pretty clear your reality is a pipe dream if you think these players are upholding academic standards. These kids that transfered are not going to class and if you really believe that you are not very smart.. so Ill go back to my original statement if yours is true. When is the last time you heard of a player not meeting academic progress standards? ALL of them are?? Hahaha! Get real…
