Once a neglected and hazardous area, the Arada district has been reimagined into a magnificent urban sanctuary.
For us, Ethiopia is not merely a dream to be envisioned, it is a reality to be built. We are building a nation that is healthy, resilient, and full of promise for future generations that is also a leader in Africa and a formidable competitor on the global stage. Each day, we continue to turn this promise into reality.
PICS| His Excellence President Cyril Ramaphosa holds a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
South Africa and Ethiopia maintain strong, strategic bilateral relations, deeply rooted in Ethiopia's historical support for South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle. The global icon former President Nelson Mandela’s early military training bears testament to the strong historical ties.
The partnership is now focused on deepening economic cooperation in trade, agriculture, tourism, and investment.

Ethiopia's economy is forecast to expand 10.2% in 2025-26, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on Tuesday, higher than the finance ministry's projection of 8.9% given in June. https://t.co/x0iS49beA4
Today, I attended the opening of the Aviation Expo 2026 as part of the celebrations marking 90 years of the Ethiopian Air Force. Under the theme “Flying Forward, Building a Shared Future,” the Expo brings together national and international partners to advance aviation technology, skills, and cooperation, and to strengthen Ethiopia’s role as a growing aviation and aerospace hub in Africa.

Congratulations!
What a tremendous victory and a proud moment for our football-loving nation!
Our U-17 National Team — the Red Foxes — have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 22 years after a commanding 3–0 win over Kenya. Congratulations and well done!
This achievement shows that when we invest consistently in youth and in sport, the day Ethiopian football rises again on the continental and global stage is truly within reach.
To every player, coach, federation official, ministry leader, and supporter who made this moment possible: thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Once again, congratulations!
The pride of Ethiopia is roaring back!
Excellent objective piece on the remaking of Addis Ababa under Mayor Adanech discussing the good, bad, ugly of her efforts. Making huge investments to remake city is one thing, but maintaining new infrastructure will need continuous future funding.

I had a productive discussion this morning with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe on the state of African football and Ethiopia’s role in its development. Highlighted our commitment to youth development, infrastructure, and strengthening partnerships with CAF to elevate African football on the global stage.
When I discussed Assab port with PM Meles at end of Ethio/Eritrean War, he said Ethiopia could take Assab, but no one would insure cargo given likelihood of Eritrean rebels targeting ships. Another war would hurt everyone so time to take a breath + think!

Africa’s economic rise is underway, taking shape in our cities, farms, factories, and digital ecosystems. To unlock its full potential, reform must drive investment, and investment must drive shared growth.
Together with members of the Prosperity Party Executive Committee, we visited the completed corridor development project extending from Sar Bet to German Square, the Garment Factory, and the Furi area. Covering more than 589 hectares, it stands as the second largest and widest site after Kazanchis. The project includes the construction of 16.5 km of asphalt roads, an additional 3 km of internal roads, and pedestrian walkways stretching a total of 33 km. It features plazas, sports facilities, children’s playgrounds, and 5.2 km of riverbank development. In addition, there are parking areas and terminals, an electric car charging station, and 1,107 shops built by both private and government entities. The development also encompasses 50.5 hectares of green spaces, public toilets, 13.3 km of bicycle lanes, and 38 taxi and bus bays. Our national corridor development projects like this one are playing a vital role in boosting local economic activity, improving mobility, and enhancing social interaction by creating vibrant, accessible, and sustainable urban spaces.
In another recent interview on EBC English with Ato Shiferaw I discuss Ethiopia's need for port access, the GERD's economic importance, and other "hot button" Horn of Africa issues. A Bottom line-no one can benefit from a renewed interstate conflict.

Re GERD - my advice to Egypt. Drop the political drama and engage with Ethiopia professionally on technical issues. I know from experience that Ethiopia cannot be bullied and the more you push the more immovable they become. It’s time to accept today’s reality!

Delighted that US will participate in Ethiopia's new Addis Ababa airport project to build Africa's largest airport near Bishoftu-allowing more aircraft to use it given much lower altitude. Good match for Ethiopian Airlines, one of world's best carriers.
