6/6 Saturday @WNBA games get 50% higher TV ratings of non-Saturday games. Thursday and Sunday games perform the worst thanks to NFL competition. If I was the commissioner, I wouldn't schedule games on Thursday or Sunday to maximize viewership!

4/6 Without a contract, Rozelle begged Congress for an anti-trust exemption. Chair Emanuel Cellar would only grant the exemption if the NFL would be banned from playing on Saturdays until the 2nd Saturday of December, the day of the Army-Navy game which ended the NCAA season

5/6 To this day, the NFL is still banned from Saturday games until mid-December, which is why Game 1 of the WNBA Finals has such high ratings - it's played on a Saturday without NFL competition!

3/6 NCAA President Walter Byers correctly assumed that CBS would push for games on Saturdays and that would decimate college football. He testified before Congress and sued in court. He won and the contract was voided.

1/6 What's going on with Game 1 of the @WNBA finals? For the last two years the ratings have been crazy high! It's the unintended consequence of a political compromise made in 1961 to get the @NFL an anti-trust exemption:

Meanwhile Austin, which currently has 34 gates, spent 18 months debating their 6 gate Concourse M, broke ground 3 weeks ago, and might be done summer of 2028.

2/ Looking at the @longhornderek data, Republicans are voting like a midterm, while Dems are voting like a general election. That's not great new for the Texas GOP

I looked at the first 3 days of EV in Harris County (Houston) and marked the precinct lean of the 62 vote centers that stayed the same between 2026 and 2024. Vote centers in precincts that voted for Harris are higher and Trump are lower. The redder the precinct the lower the turnout:
