I’m all for universal care. The question is how do we get from here to there.

How much paper work do doctors have to do today to get paid by Trad Medicare ? Don’t look at the macro to start. Look to see what happens to doctors, clinics, hospitals, particularly rural hospitals.

What happens to them ? Are you sure those savings will apply when every care giver is billing Medicare at a scale they have never seen. When every American is using every bit of care they possibly can.

How will you cost it. If you think the Feds can easily negotiate better prices , just look at the contracts tricare negotiated. Or read the comments on state negotiated PBMs that I posted. You sure you are going to get the best negotiators that know what they are doing that are better than the vendors ?

The last thing any proponent of universal care should want is ridiculous plug numbers in studies that are used to sell voters.

All it will do is disappoint if it passes, and that leads to the other party doing things like ending the individual mandate or premium credits Or being one John McCain vote from a path to repealing the ACA.

There is every reason to believe the same would happen with universal care.

Unless, there is buy in, at a detailed level , by all stakeholders. Not just those from one party or the other.
