The 25-year-old whale mural is visible again on downtown Detroit’s Broderick Tower after last night’s storm damaged Phil Simpson’s smiles mural, which Rocket Companies installed in 2021.
#HighlandPark, Cortland & 2nd, 1927-2022. The #Detroit area did once have "subways" under it's streets, but they were actually pedestrian tunnels. Four were built around the city, three which remain (Cortland/2nd, Pilgrim/2nd & John R/Candler), and a long gone one at Cass/Peterboro. They were abandoned by the '60's as traffic eased due to freeways & population losses. In this view looking west, the tunnel entrances are covered up, though urban explorers have found it flooded with water & trash. The homes across 2nd have been gone for decades. The abandoned former Roselawn Apt building rises in the distance. More on that to come.
