@Jenna_bee__ @BCVanCan @CityNewsTO@CityAdrian Since businesses that scan it are required to do so using the official provincial app, it's impossible to fake. If someone tries, the app won't open up their website and just state it's invalid.
I recommend you try it yourself for peace of mind. https://t.co/91kMLLFHh0
@EasyGoodDeeds@Vigdis_Herja I don't think they meant option 3. 2 would be more accurate in my opinion
Fish had a lunglike organ long before they left the water. They used it to help breathe in low oxygen swamps, as well as buoyancy control
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 Prior to that time, while part of the federation and as a colony, it had a much more restricted, export and manufacturing based economy. The government had a much bigger hand in it, which people tend to refer to as "not free".
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 There are many post-colonial countries, but I credit their growth specifically to the economic policies they implemented afterwards.
We can directly compare them to other countries in the region like Malaysia that were not as successful due to their economics

@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 After 1965, Singapore built its economy on capitalist principles which allowed it go from one of the world's poorest nations to one of the richest. These involved incentivizing investment, privatization, and free business. I'd recommend this book for more:

@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 By incentivizing things like innovation and efficiency, capitalism allows funding to be directed to where it can have the most impact.
I recommend you read this to understand better:

@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 I was referring to your statement that "capitalism creates wealth", and assumed that meant you agreed capitalism makes people richer.
If you want specific countries, you can see examples of prosperity massively increase after freeing the markets in places like Singapore or Taiwan
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 So you agree the wealthiest world is a capitalist one, and that capitalism are compatible with lifting billions out of poverty based on the trends from the previous centuries?
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 I understand your point, but part of the argument is that capitalism is responsible for the widespread manufacturing, research, production, and dissemination of those antibiotics.
The free market played a role in making them so widely available and mass produced.
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 The initial claim was never causation. The way I'm reading it, the commenter is basically saying "everywhere we have capitalism also has poverty reduction" or, more simply, "capitalism correlates with prosperity".
I take it that you agree with this from your other comment?
@ReignOfHeathens@damosuzuki1@sammajammaz@mcgs025 They never claimed there was 0 innovation before capitalism.
Only that the rate of innovation and average prosperity has shot up drastically since adopting free markets and capitalist principles.
@MaxJone78889200 @PCzacD @NotGyro@miniondeathcult I get what you're saying. From my POV I think this task is difficult and unknown enough (even if we understand it theoretically, doing it on another planet is extremely hard) that it's reasonable to expect some deaths, however I agree he is quite tactless about how he says it.
@MaxJone78889200 @PCzacD @NotGyro@miniondeathcult Really? When before have we tried and tested the engineering needed to create a self sufficient human colony in non-earthlike conditions? This alone seems to be something that will need many iterations before it can be done safely and robustly.
@AugM9192 @nomadicfranku @pryingtonun@JustAnArtist122@miniondeathcult Fair enough. I agree his personality is quite lacking and he can be very boorish at times
I do think his companies have real potential for humanity and that he's not trying to be a villain about this stuff; however I do often tend to be overly optimistic, so take that as you will
@MaxJone78889200 @PCzacD @NotGyro@miniondeathcult I'm not sure I agree. In terms of the actual rockets, I agree we can get to mars safely.
But building life support systems on a new planet, launching so many people in 1 rocket, shielding settlements from radiation, etc. are all new problems which we haven't tried before.
@AugM9192 @nomadicfranku @pryingtonun@JustAnArtist122@miniondeathcult I believe his other companies (such as Tesla, SolarCity, Boring, Starlink) are his attempt at making life better here. To him, there's no good reason not to try to do both at the same time.
Also, with the benefit of hindsight, that colony could be run better than ones in history
@AugM9192 @nomadicfranku @pryingtonun@JustAnArtist122@miniondeathcult I'm not sure I'd entirely agree with that either. In his POV, it seems like he genuinely believes making human life multiplanetary is something that would benefit the human race, and negative effects would happen in spite of that goal, not because of it.
