🇫🇷 #France - 🇷🇺 #Russia: The French Navy intercepted a Cameroon-flagged tanker, named Deliver, off the coast of Sicily on Tuesday, accusing the vessel of being part of Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" used to circumvent Western oil sanctions.
The tanker was reportedly sailing from Primorsk, Russia, to Singapore.
Good analysis on Arctic resource development costs:
- Capital cost multipliers of 1.5-2.5x
- Operating cost multiplier of 1.7-2.8x
= Commodity prices need to be 30-50% higher than for established mining regions to achieve equivalent investment returns

New footage published by the French Navy from yesterday’s interception, boarding, and seizure of the stateless sanctioned crude oil tanker, M/T GRINCH - part of Russia’s Shadow Fleet - in the Western Mediterranean near the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco.
We will not tolerate any violation.
This morning, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker coming from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of flying a false flag.
The operation was conducted on the high seas in the Mediterranean, with the support of several of our allies. It was carried out in strict compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
A judicial investigation has been opened. The vessel has been diverted.
We are determined to uphold international law and to ensure the effective enforcement of sanctions.
The activities of the “shadow fleet” contribute to financing the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Pleased with this progress to increase Arctic security through joint NATO action.
With our NATO allies, including the Nordic Baltic 8, Canada will fully participate in the defence of the region and further securing the alliance’s northern and western flanks.
trump fully backs down on greenland, withdraws sanction announcement and “ownership” demand.
no concessions from denmark or europe.
1) unpopular in united states,
including republicans
2) negative market reaction
3) unyielding european response, economic retaliation expected
So basically Trump nearly torpedoes NATO to go back to square one (plus additional distrust towards the US from its closest allies) so that Trump and MAGA can pat themselves on the back... truly Art of the Deal, folks...
1. These could've been avoided if Trump didnt start this
2. The agreement already allows troops and military bases "as deemed necessary by NATO" so this could've easily been discussed without all of Trump posturing before falling back on his TACO method.
1/4
Greenland deal commits 🇺🇸 and 🇬🇱 + allies to:
1) no tariffs
2) renegotiation of 1951 agreement allowing stationing of US troops
3) US say on investments
4) stronger European security commitment in 🇬🇱
Sources close to talks tell me. Details still to be agreed.

"The enemy wanted to destroy us in three days, but for three years he has been gnashing his teeth at our resilience. He wanted to make us afraid, but we have learned to live without fear.
We all made our choice to fight. And this is proof that darkness will never win if light burns in our hearts."
