It’s been nice to explore other subjects again. I’ll miss mathematics and maybe I’ll return.
Or maybe…just maybe…I’ll find something else to do *gasp* (but ofc there’s going to be math involved)
Given where I come from I still never thought I could do mathematics at the level I was doing it. I never thought I would be able to get a degree in it (let alone 3). I’m pretty grateful for that.
Wasn’t able to complete my PhD at Clemson. (I graduated with another masters instead last December). Couldn’t pass my Analysis Prelim/Qual. Probably too much stress from cancer and doing math at that level…..kind of a tough combo…but idk I did the best I could.
Been gone for a minute. Still working on math. Semester winding down among other things. I was diagnosed with a mediastinal large b-cell lymphoma earlier this year. Happy to say I am reaching the end of my treatment plan. (Last round of chemo today...finally!).
3 Great Authors, 3 Great Mathematicians, and I'm sure this means 3 great books in front me...I have no idea how I'm going to get through this all...I guess..slowly? 😅 @JSEllenberg@stevenstrogatz@mathyawp#math
In case you didn't know, I got my PhD from MIT math (!) and I'm now a member at the Institute for Advanced Study, in Princeton NJ. I've only been here two weeks, but I love it already. They did a little profile of myself and three other scholars: https://t.co/Kl99kq31CH
Been thinking about starting a math blog. Inspired by Terry's blog as well as @math3ma. I think it would be a good study tool...not to mention that I can contribute to trying to bring math to wider audience..just gotta figure out how make it happen lol.
Trying think of ways to bring math into pop-culture. It seems as the physicist, biologist, chemists, amongst others can do it easily, Cosmos or Planet Earth. We could use a mathematical version of those shows.
