The Trump administration's efforts to slash research funding have US graduate students, postdocs and other early-career scientists fearing for their careers. Some are considering changing jobs or leaving the country. Others say them might abandon research altogether.

today, @Columbia University issued a statement condemning an individual graduate student for linking articles about Palestine in a science course.
The articles were “Wonder and Life of Palestinian astrology” and “In Gaza, scanning the sky for stars not drones”.
@georgelemental@itslaylas@Columbia Hard science is done by humans. Astronomy is done by humans. You cannot teach science without acknowledging the human experience.
Our Picture an Astronomer series starts in just over a week! Free to attend (in person in Chicago and online) and an incredible opportunity to engage directly with the scientists behind cutting edge astrophysics research. ✨
Agency-wide email that had just gone out. I’m not often one to advocate for open non-compliance of NASA policies.
But to all my NASA friends—if you saw something, you saw nothing.
Paper day! We report a compelling candidate for a Pop 3 galaxy! Pop 3 here refers to the very first generation of stars formed out of primordial material left over after the Big Bang. https://t.co/GjzSNPDHib
So long and thanks for all the fish! I just observed my last star this morning... #GaiaDPAC and @esa Gaia teams will do their best to make some great data releases from all the data I gathered! #GaiaDR4 in 2026, #GaiaDR5 around the end of the decade. Keep posted for our news items today at 10:00 CET.

Many valued members of the astronomy community working at/near JPL have lost their homes. Please consider donating to help them rebuild their lives ...
Huge thank you to all of our co-authors and my advisor @AGalactichawk for all of the fun science and teaching me alllllll of the things that go into publishing 🔭📚
interrupting your scrolling to show you my first first-author paper that has just been published 🤸♀️

This work is titled [X/Fe] Marks the Spot: Mapping Chemical Azimuthal Variations in the Galactic Disk with APOGEE 🗺️
Let's get into it 🧵
All of this to say, the chemistry of stars in the disk can be funky and it can be hard to disentangle the root cause of observed patterns in the disk. Next steps include diving into simulations to "turn on" different processes to get a better look at what's going on physically 🤓
