Participants explored risk layering through Caribbean case studies, assessing existing CDRFI policies & risk transfer mechanisms. The exercise highlighted how CDRFI strengthens disaster risk management by enabling institutions to manage risks more efficiently and comprehensively.
The CARICOM in-person workshop has come to a close, but the commitment to charting a path toward climate prosperity remains steadfast. Discussions on the final day focused on adaptation finance, loss and damage financing needs, and risk layering.
Geneva Oliverie of CVF-V20 Secretariat presented the proposed Regional Training Adaptation Hub for Caribbean, under the V20 Loss and Damage Funding Program. This aims to close protection gaps for MSMEs and communities, advance locally-led adaptation & social protection solutions.
The first day ended with a networking session among the participating senior officials of CARICOM members, reiterating priorities in scaling concessionality, mobilizing private capital, promoting country ownership, and advocating for shock-responsive debt instruments.
The CVF-V20 began its two-day in-person workshop in Barbados, bringing together Caribbean countries to discuss priorities and challenges in shaping climate finance architecture and shock-responsive financial instruments that support climate prosperity and disaster risk resilience
The final session explored risk layering opportunities for the Caribbean, especially among MSMEs, cooperatives, smallholder farmers, and vulnerable households. This featured existing initiatives to address the critical protection gaps that persists at the meso and micro levels.
