@letterboxd Terrible news. Where are the million views for the silent films made in the world BABYLON portrayed so abominably? That modern audiences will hold this shit in their heads, tied to the Silent Era, rather than the real-life masterworks of Hollywood’s pioneers is…soul-shattering.
@DocSharkey@Gibboanxious (HBO)Max & Amazon Prime actually have a great selection of classic films, including many silents! Netflix is the real embarrassment of the big-name streamers in this regard, b/c they used to have an excellent catalog of classics, & have gradually removed it ALL.
@tcm@BenMank77 @moviesonmax I’m sorry, pals - but this was an embarrassment of an episode. I love TCM & think Bridget Everett is great - however, movies were not even mentioned until minute 40 of this (alleged!) movie-focused podcast. Some forced Max cross-promotion, I guess? Super disappointing to hear.
@DaveEmerich@MLBNetwork Please tell me how effective Jeter, Posada, & Williams were at policing & stopping the steroid-using cheaters on their teams, while they were playing in all of these postseason games. You (rightly) don’t hear people calling THEM cheaters. Altuve’s context is the same. 🤷♀️
@KylieKunefke@michaelschwab13 (Honestly…I think Chas may have been in the bathroom when the fight started? In one of last night’s replays, it looked to me like he was adjusting his pants as he ran out there.)
@phillipghutzman@KolbyDuhon@michaelschwab13 Respectfully, I disagree. LMJ has been a huge part of making the Astros clubhouse culture what it is. He was & always has been “team first”—consistently looking for chances to contribute off the field, when hurt & unable to do so on-field. I respect the hell out of him for that.
@KolbyDuhon@michaelschwab13 I actually think him being hurt/not on the roster is partly why he so aggressively charged out there & put himself at the front of the fight. He was trying to make sure that if anyone got hit, it was him - and not one of the players key to this team’s success. Great teammate. 👏
@StarCity81 @realdrewshirley @lisette_tv The two biggest endorsers of the scheme were a member of the COACHING STAFF (Cora) & the team’s veteran-most player (Beltrán). To be sure, Altuve was a well-respected, experienced player in ’17 - but against the combined power/influence of THAT pair? His opinion meant nothing.
@Jib777777 @realdrewshirley I don’t think anyone (outside the members of that team) will ever know what was or wasn’t said within the clubhouse that year, & therefore don’t think it’s fair to demonize a player for not “not speaking up” - when it’s actually extremely likely that he did.
@Jib777777 @realdrewshirley Here’s the thing, though - since it’s been well established that all of Altuve’s teammates KNEW he wanted no part of the system, which is why virtually no can bangs were recorded during his ABs…how do you think they learned this, other than him “speaking up” against it to them?
