Best News and Politics show finalist in the 2023 Podcast Awards. What to know and where to go in Metro Detroit throught our daily podcast and newsletter.
Joined @TheDailyDetroit this week to talk about Elon’s Twitter, the origins of the Haitian migrant story, manipulated media and the stakes of knowing what’s real and what’s not this election https://t.co/TX07Csxvq9
@wouldbirds@michaeldomps@samueljrob Last I remember it’s four parcels on that block between Edmund and Alfred, two separate private ones and then the Land Bank. That thing isn’t getting developed until people get paid out, and situations like this are probably a good “pro” for Land Value Tax.
@AmyHemmeter@2024dion@Detroit_Al It’s part of why - with all the hype - the 3D house hasn’t sold. A normal buyer can get a small standalone house in tons of places with less overhead and better services. The cost structure of the city, and the idea of leaving it is making it, is real, esp. among middle class.
@AmyHemmeter@2024dion@Detroit_Al Ok let’s set aside our booster hat and be real about that product. Most people looking for a house like that can buy far more for way less in Taylor and my overall costs are lower for my family; crime/taxes/insurance/etc - and schools. The market for that product isn’t huge.
@AmyHemmeter@2024dion@Detroit_Al Multiple sources tell me without subsidy all in it can easily hit $500k to build a standalone SFH on the city that can hold a family. It’s why you don’t see it often, and subsidy needed. I don’t have an address, but that’s a small house.
@2024dion@pomobobomofo One of the most promising efforts to build SFH is one supported by the a Gilbert Foundation in North Corktown, and we don’t have a real price landed on that yet. https://t.co/nDYdLtvaQC
@2024dion There’s the “3-D printed” house that had a lot of media attention but is still for sale at $224k. I’ve also seen some stuff on the east side, I’m at the draft so my house hunting skills are limited tonight. https://t.co/FChLgqHaxD
Yerrrr!
@TheDailyDetroit got Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) the house! First name basis too!
We talk Type1 diabetes, the #NFLDraft2024 coming up in Detroit, where Adam likes to go in the metro area, & how he thinks the Lions will do next year 👀 #OnePride

@binder_robert In his day work, Devon does a ton as far as small businesses, encouraging growth, and more. He’s got his finger on the pulse of a lot of decision makers, too. He and I just disagree on this one.
@binder_robert He’s been on the show almost every Friday for years 😂 we all have different viewpoints, and a -lot- of people in Metro Detroit share his. If we all agreed it’d be boring, and if we’re gonna be reflective and responsive to the community we need differing voices at the table.
@ijkijKevin@SaintFDW@DetroitCityFC Threads and Instagram stories. I don’t think we’re coming back here in force. We left for a month and we got *more* growth to our podcast, which is the center of all we do. Not just because of *waves arms at everything here* but also we’re focusing our time. Thanks for asking!
@binder_robert So they’re doing an RFP for redevelopment. Goal is auto supplier. Must keep the frontage they’re saving on Grand Boulevard. No developer, says the mayor, would even consider pre-demo. Says they have people interested.
Is 2024 a turning point for transit in Metro Detroit?
From a new legislative caucus to pilot programs, there’s definite progress.
But the ghosts of leaders that represented our divisions still haunt us through policy. https://t.co/GzjZMHFiCM
@benfromdetroit@sociallychrissy@SaintFDW@RandyWalker @KristinFehrman @boymaddie_ @samueljrob@PolarBarrett Lol I don’t think it was beef; she seemed nice. If not into Detroit area or local related stuff we’re probably just not your jam. And that’s fine; content that tries to be for everyone often ends up for no one. Algorithms have trained people to expect stuff specifically for them.
Good to get many of us in studio, together, at the same time, for the first time in a long time. Ep drops tomorrow on the Michigan Central hotel; Olga’s nostalgia; and the impact of the “introvert economy” (example: most
popular dinner reservations have moved way earlier).
