Upland Unified School District recently added what they are calling a California Sushi Bowl to the lunch menu!

It has imitation crab, sushi rice, pickled carrots, cucumber, sweet chili edamame, spicy mayo, eel sauce, cilantro and crispy onion!

When I was 25, I was one of 5 people nominated for best chef in Washington DC by the city’s restaurant association. I was not a good chef.

Not saying awards and accolades are meaningless, but PR teams do wonders.

The kitchen team at Ann Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill Unified School District are upping the school pizza game with their “Chef Special” pizza offerings on Thursdays. Check out this Pepperoni, Chorizo, & Pickled Jalapeño pizza they recently put together!!!

Public school districts in the US serving thoughtfully prepared, tasty and nutritious food to their students is realistic. It’s already happening.

Does it take time to get there? Does it take hard work and dedication? Does it take financial investment?

Yes to all three.

That said, there are no excuses for a public school district to not be working towards serving great food to their students.
