I understand about the damage that a bad church can do.

Find a bible app, New English Translation, find the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5 and read a bit. That is what Christianity is about.

For understanding revelation I would recommend joining a Roman Catholic or an Eastern Orthodox Church. Some things need context and church tradition in order to be understood.
