@_Credible_Hulk@ProudSocialist It's likely this: https://t.co/iDDVrBPGGR
By "free" they mean, inter alia, tax subsidies go to them and their friends to produce whatever socialist propaganda they desire.
@CliffordAsness Wow, an "economist" who's contributed to Jacobin and Rethinking Marxism likes rent control? Who would've ever guessed.
Should we also ask Richard Wolff?

@MalaFide77@Noahpinion OK, but that's driven by mortgages. And a mortgage does not decrease net worth (asset the home=liability the mortgage, net effect=0.)
Student loans are unique in being major loans where they do not count the asset. So they show up as pure negative net worth at first.
@iopq@Noahpinion I don't know about this report, but the OxFam report in particular does compare the US to third world countries, and concludes that there is more wealth inequality in the US, partly because of this issue.
@iopq@Noahpinion Good point. But a quick search shows the US spend 80% more per student on college education.
And I suspect they are not doing a great job (or anything at all) to subtract future taxes out of net worth. But yes, the past taxes reduce past income and then what is accumulated.
@iopq@Noahpinion Education seems unique in this list is only being counted as negative net worth and not having a measured or accounted for asset.
But in common sense it's insane to consider a person or a society poorer because they have access to student loans! Yet that's what those reports do
@iopq@Noahpinion From a simple accounting standpoint, yes. But if you borrowed the same amount and bought a bond, a stock, a house, a car, a business, etc. at the moment of purchase you should have a 0 net worth (asset=liability.) And the value of those assets would only be realized over time.
@wagonomics@EconTalker I know exactly where the words come from. I've read it and I admire it. Do you? Do you think he does?
He's jumbling the words and using them in an asinine and insulting way.
@LeorSapir I would gladly contribute to your noble cause.
But question: has any private individual ever done a land acknowledgment on their own land? Isn't it always a government-type doing so on public land?
They might be happy to give away public lands...They freely give away public $
@wethefifth She might be perfectly happy with coach tickets costing $1000s because then fewer people would fly and so maybe less carbon emission.
The government will pay for her tickets, so she'll be fine. :)
@pmarca@brubarian And never forget Lenin's approach to solving this: "We stirred up the poor peasants against the rich peasants and they soon hung them from the nearest tree. Ha Ha Ha."
