In the 53 years since Roe v. Wade was decided, women have seen endless attacks on their right to reproductive freedom. Here at The First Ask, we work to close the gender gap in state legislatures, making sure women are truly represented.
Join the Democratic Party of Georgia and down-ballot candidates today from 12–3 PM for an exciting canvass event with Representative Lucy McBath and Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund! I’ll be there too!
We’ll provide all the training and materials you need to connect with your neighbors and help spread the word about the importance of voting in this election.

The First Ask is proud to endorse @KamalaHarris for the Democratic Nomination! There is no one more qualified to take on this moment and no one who has more consistently championed women in politics at all levels.
It is an honor to be endorsed by They See Blue Georgia! For years, I have worked with the Desi community, and they have been a strong force in electing Democrats. Since 2019, They See Blue Georgia has made thousands of calls and texts to South Asian voters in every election cycle
It was a great meeting with Latinx elected officials and candidates at the Pa’lante Georgia fundraiser! Our vibrant Latinx community is growing its representation by electing more Latina/os representatives in Georgia! #michellekangforga#community#representation
Breaking the Kansas GOP’s legislative supermajority is one of @DLCC’s top priorities this year.
It will take flipping just:
✅1 seats in the House
✅3 seats in the Senate
to make it happen.
Both of these chambers are on our target map this year. Let’s do it. #SummerOfTheStates
After being at the State Capitol since 10:00 AM yesterday, working to pass the State Budget and multiple meaningful bills, I’m proud to share that at 5:15 AM this morning, the Michigan House of Representatives passed my first legislation, HB 5826 with bipartisan support.
In addition, I had the opportunity to vote for the first time on our State Budget, which will provide meaningful revenue sharing for local municipalities, investments in our schools, funding for infrastructure upgrades, and so much more!
I am so incredibly grateful to my colleagues, our staff, stakeholders, and everyone who had a role in making this possible.
HB 5826 creates a doula scholarship program for individuals who are training to become a doula in the state of Michigan while experiencing financial hardships.
This legislation will not only empower individuals to pursue meaningful careers as doulas, it will simultaneously improve maternal health for all mothers in our state.
The bill is now headed to the Senate chamber for a vote where I hope it will be taken up after the session break.
Padma Lakshmi, the creator, host, and executive producer of Taste the Nation, visited Georgia for a gathering marking the anniversary of the Dobbs decision. We discussed its impact on the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities.
We know that some of the most important races are happening at the State Legislative Level -- and it looks like Republicans do too. We can't sleep on these very important races because our opponents sure as hell are not.
The next generation holds the key to shaping our future, and it is crucial that we support young women to become the leaders we need.
When the Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson decision overturned the right to safe, legal abortion two years ago, Michiganders responded by overwhelmingly voting to pass Proposal 3 in 2022, and rejecting the outdated 1931 abortion law.
We did this, through volunteer petition drives, writing postcards, phonebanking, and holding community rallies.
On the second anniversary of the SCOTUS Dobbs decision, I am incredibly proud to not just talk about these values and principles, but to continue to practice and live by them. Through identifying, activating, and training young women to join me in our grassroots movement, together, we are upholding our commitment to protecting women's rights and ensuring women's voices at the table, one door knock and one conversation at a time.

.@KamalaHarris: ENOUGH WITH THE GASLIGHTING! 🗣️
Trump has already done enough damage—we can't allow him to continue attacking ALL of our fundamental freedoms.
We know he's a liar, he's out-of-step with Americans, and that giving him a second term would be devastating.
Two years ago today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Here at The First Ask, we refuse to have less rights than our grandmothers. We will never stop fighting for your reproductive rights.
Republicans have proved time and time again that they are willing and able to increase oppressive policies and amplify the harm inflicted on their constituents. State Legislative elections are the best tool we have to fight these extreme measures.
Louisiana lawmakers passed legislation on Thursday to make the state the first in the U.S. to designate abortion pills as dangerous controlled substances. But the FDA does not consider the two medications to have the potential for abuse or dependence. https://t.co/1xCxiZIglE
