@drjennings You can’t make a chunky chutney without a decent swede….a buttery and peppery mash of carrot and turnip is a staple addition to any good roast, and little white summer turnips shredded into little batons make a perfect oriental pickled salad… they’re a year round veg here 👨‍🍳

@SallyNex 2)and we’ve noticed that if we get plenty of brown (cardboard, paper, etc) into the hot bin, the compost doesn’t disappear as quickly, suggesting we are making more complex and persistent carbon…. Thus reducing the amount of compost we need to add each year to maintain the bed.

@SallyNex 1)Interesting debate. We watched with interest as our (slightly) raised beds used to evaporate over the year due to using commercial compost which appears to have a low complex carbon content. We’ve had a hot compost bin for the last three years, and we really work it hard…
