The Stand-off with Wrex in Mass Effect 1 was peek gaming.
The reason it hit so hard was that never before in a video game (or never like this) were you thrown into a contentious but understandable and organic situation - where a beloved companion must be put down by you (or your companion) or not, based off your choices.
1⃣One you have to make knowing his reasons are justified. It's about the fate of his entire species, not just some random squabble.
2⃣One that can go catastrophically wrong if you haven't helped him out prior or got high enough charm or intimidation.
3⃣One you have to make after the game gives you plenty of opportunity to develop a bond with the little guy.
4⃣One you have to make not understanding the full weight of your choice yet. The loss of Wrex really hurts in ME2, and ME3 and you are almost locked out of the best ending.
Just look at the conversation. After Shepard gives Wrex a real reason to listen, he does. There is a pause, and the silence is palpable.
I could almost feel the voice actor in the booth swirling with the weight of it all - even though he said nothing.
I've never felt tension like this prior in gaming, and from that moment on I was a life long fan.
Make him YOUR minion. 🤖

Reach is 15 and I'm about to be 30, 15 y/o me never would have thought games/FPS went the way it did. This one's the biggest reality check for me in my life.
I'm old and I miss good games 🥲
Splitgate 1's dedicated servers are going down, but the devs believe in the Stop Killing Games movement and changed to peer-to-peer connection to keep it playable
They're also adding new content and making all cosmetics free to keep the game alive forever
I'm losing my love for gaming slowly because we paying $70 for the most unfinished, sloppy, bug ridden messes possible and have to wait years just to get the dev's "intended vision" of a game all while there's upwards of $40 expansions and $200 worth of microtransactions
