On Tuesday, Democratic Senator and Reverend Raphael Warnock won re-election to a full six-year term, defeating former NFL running back Hershel Walker. In the past decade, Democrats have run up massive margins in the Atlanta suburbs, while simultaneously losing ground in rural GA.
Two-term Republican senator Marco Rubio won re-election by a whopping 16.4% margin, obliterating Democratic Rep. Val Demings, and outperforming Donald Trump by 13.1%. Although the entire state had a massive shift towards the GOP, the shift was more concentrated in south Florida.
Republican Congressman Ted Budd defeated former Democratic North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley by a margin of 3.4% to win North Carolina's Class 3 U.S. Senate seat, outperforming Donald Trump by 1.8 points.
Republican author and venture capitalist J.D. Vance defeated Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan to win a U.S. Senate seat in Ohio by 6.6%. Compared to Joe Biden, Ryan posted a strong showing throughout the state, however the Buckeye state's partisan lean caught up to him.
Democratic senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada triumphed over Republican Adam Laxalt, a former Attorney General. Although Laxalt improved upon Trump's 2020 performance statewide and in Clark and Washoe counties, it ultimately wasn't enough, as CCM improved in the rurals.
One-term Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan won re-election, defeating the Republican nominee, retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Don Bolduc by 9.2%, a 1.8% swing to the left from Joe Biden's 7.4% margin of victory in 2020. Hassan outperformed Biden in every county.
Democratic senator Mark Kelly, first elected in a 2020 special election to replace Republican John McCain, won re-election to a full six-year term to Arizona's Class 3 U.S. Senate seat, 2 weeks ago. He defeated venture capitalist Blake Masters by a margin of 4.9%.
Democratic Lt. Governor John Fetterman was elected to the U.S. Senate two weeks ago, defeating Republican celebrity doctor, Mehmet Oz. Fetterman outperformed Joe Biden in 64 of the Keystone State's 67 counties, with a statewide swing of D+3.6.
If West Virginia had never left Virginia, this is how the 2020 and 2016 U.S. presidential elections would've looked in the state of Greater Virginia.
It would've been a left-trending swing state that voted twice for Bush, twice for Obama, and once for Trump and once for Biden.
