11 years. Last 2 grinding my ass off. I hit Challenger. From Bronze in Season 3, to Challenger in Season 2023. I am extremely happy and proud of myself in this moment. This game has given me so much, and I have now left my mark on it forever.
@housesarebig Sorry, what I mean is if you're teching for meta, what cards are the ones you are looking to cut first to find room for cards to sub in is what I mean.
As you all saw, Spiritforged preorders went fast today. We know it was a frustrating experience for a lot of you. Overall, we saw two major issues: first, even with ~50 percent more product than Origins, we still didn’t have enough to meet demand. (1/9)
Woke up and saw the Bwipo clip -> Saw the FlyQuest tweet -> Read reddit/twitter/etc. His comment is super gross and ignorant and I'm even confused on how he can make it (there are woman pro players in games already and have been historically lol. Not to mention in other high end stress jobs like what). I would expect/anticipate that Riot will do something now as well.
Actually such a disbelief moment in regards to level of stupidity/ignorance the clip is. It's the type of clip genuinely malicious/misogynistic/hateful ppl would try to weaponize against female players, instead of trying to make spaces more inclusive for them.
I fully believe the reason why for example there aren't more female pros has nothing to do with biology, but rather the environments within the space don't create proper places for the talents to shine through and get real opportunities.
In league specifically there are literal female challenger players right now in every region, it's dishonest to say none of them could be pro lol.
Also a lot of pro players have mental illnesses pertaining to anxiety/depression/etc which are CONSTANT (not once a month like a period) thing, so it's also even more crazy to claim a period would somehow ever be worse.
I don't usually respond to obvious hate comments since I prefer to focus my energy towards positivity, but I'll make an exception here.
CONTEXT: Arktheos aka Aribo recently embarked on a quest to stop the EVIL "statbros" (:D), leaving numerous not-so-nice comments on my tweets and now making an entire thread bashing my recent video.
When you strip away the anger from his comments, his underlying allegations/criticisms focus on the following two topics:
1) "Statbros" like me just blindly trust data and don't think for themselves, and this is corrupting the League player base in their itemization choices.
2) "Win probability" is a fake stat that I invented that has no practical applications in League of Legends theory-crafting.
He bolsters these opinions by highlighting individual item recommendations by me or my mutuals (such as Dead Man's Plate Akali), which he considers to be objectively bad.
Now let's debunk these points a bit:
1) I constantly emphasize the need for a holistic approach to itemization, consisting of
a) theory (ability scalings, gold efficiency)
b) data (statistics, analytics)
c) practical experience (game knowledge, trial and error)
I explain this approach in detail in the video he linked (28:31). I even did a whole podcast episode about this topic with Coach Curtis and Nathan, explaining in detail why good itemization stems from a combination of these different lenses.
For a long time, people have ignored the data perspective, because the available data has not been trustworthy, which gets me to point number two:
2) Win probability (and especially WPA) isn’t something I made up. It’s a well-established metric in sports analytics, used for decades to evaluate performance and strategy.
For a more in-depth literature review, check the Master's Thesis in my pinned tweet, where I also explain the (simple) mathematical theory behind Win Probability Added.
Calling this an "imaginary number" (probabilities are always in ℝ btw :D) is ignorant.
Yes, some of my build recommendations don't pan out. That’s part of exploring off-meta ideas. But this doesn’t invalidate data-driven analysis.
Data requires interpretation. Most of my builds are extrapolations based on data—not blind trust in numbers. If anything, critique my game knowledge, not the data itself. I will not try to defend every recommendation I have made, but they have served their purpose: they've made people think about alternative builds.
I hold no ill will towards anyone here; my objective is to simply advance esports analytics and have a career in this field.
Thankfully, multiple teams, players, and coaches from the LEC and NLC have found my approach to League stats useful, so I will continue my work despite the backlash.
Ordered so many Displates cause of @Caedrel figured I’d show some off since he was just talking about em on stream (not all of these are Displates, some are canvas too).
Hi everyone,
You may have seen the anti-lane swap changes that made their way to PBE today.
Changes
The changes (as of today) are as follows:
- Lane Swap Detection
- 2 enemy champions, both of whom don’t have jungle item, are in the offending lane or surrounding area
* Timer is 1:30 - 3:30 for top lane and 1:30 - 2:15 for mid lane
* If the team has no junglers, this rule is disabled
* If the team has two or more junglers, junglers are included in the check
- While Detected
* Defending turret has 95% damage reduction
* Defending turret one shots minions
* Defending turret and minions give gold and XP from their kills to the nearest allied champion in the lane
* Offending champions gain 50% less gold and XP from minions.
* This lingers for 25 seconds in top lane, 6 seconds in mid lane..
- Top only:
* Defending turret one shots champions
* Defending champion has 50% damage reduction under their turret (~300u range)
Temporary Nature
These changes are temporary and, by extension, heavy handed by necessity. We intend to work on longer term solutions (similar to how we addressed funnel, double support items, etc.) but an elegant solution that solves the problem without adding excess long term rules to the game will take time and we’ll keep these rules in the game until that solution is ready.
Many viewers and Pros alike have expressed that lane swaps undermine something that makes League awesome; that the best top laners can fight the best top laners and the best bot lanes can fight the best bot lanes. As a result, we feel like it is necessary to make these changes at this time.
These rules are intended to address the most expectation breaking versions of lane swaps starting from level 1, but they are not intended to affect the time periods significantly after that, as swaps at that point provide lower benefits and more closely resemble “normal League of Legends”.
We want League of Legends played in Pro to look as close as possible to the League of Legends we all play. Due to lane swaps, this is not true for many Pro games right now. While Fearless Draft and Tournament Draft pick/ban might have different rules for regular players and Pros, the actions in game are governed by the same rules.
Feedback so far
We’ve also seen the comments about this affecting regular play and potential griefers.
We are trying to strike the best balance between minimizing impact to regular play and maximizing effectiveness in reducing lane swaps in pro play.
We put a lot of thought into ways that this might manifest in regular play and hit innocent players like level 2 ganking mid, a Twitch or Teemo level 1 ganking with stealth. Ultimately, we didn’t feel like we could effectively eliminate lane swaps without some amount of collateral damage to these strategies, but we are trying to mitigate with things like a shorter duration for these rules in midlane and linger durations so players incidentally pathing through these lanes don’t grief their teammates. As mentioned above, we don’t want this to be the reality forever.
Finally, we know that bad actors may attempt to use these changes as a testbed for griefing. Simply put, if you engage in this behavior to grief your teammates, we will detect it and punish you.
