"A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred." People all over the world love Chesterton and find his writing inspirational & life changing. Meanwhile, in his own country, thousands of people have never heard of him...
@EverydayCatho I dont think men should change their behaviour based on one silly article. Or maybe not even seek to understand something claiming to express how Catholic women see thingd when it doesnt necessarily express any such thing.
@EverydayCatho@jdflynn Dont blame all women for this nonsense. Most Catholic women would find it amazing that a man is dating with marriage in mind. And women also have their own questions that help rule out men who they could not see as a spouse.
@jdflynn as opposed to what the world offers (death) was a good way into the subject. He also had a devotion to St Tarcisius and I think that (martyrdom of a child) put taking the lives of children in a spiritual context for him. 2/2
@jdflynn I work in a pregnancy centre. My son grew up surrounded by mothers keeping their baby. I dont know when he started to figure out what the alternative was. We often joined 40 Days vigils too. In a way, I think learning about all the love + care extended to those in need first 1/2
Former abortionist Dr. Catherine Wheeler was in the middle of an abortion when God opened her eyes to the evil, she was a part of. She tells her story on our podcast, available now.
@RussNRoses@elvenfay The tradition of Friday abstinence is a great thing. Reminding us of Our Lord's Passion every week. And when a solemnity falls on a Friday (bacon Friday) it's a great little cultural boost for us . Even though the UK is v atheistic, Friday is still a fish and chips day for many.
@RussNRoses@elvenfay The UK used to have the same choice of penances, but our bishops restored the requirement to fast from meat because most people stopped doing anything when they didn't have one specific penance prescribed for them.
@JDKromkowski@Davidvu999@PetriOP@lukei4655 Can you quote the official Church document that says that reception on the hand is the norm? Just because this practice is foisted on people doesn't make it the norm. I think it's the communicant's own choice how they receive, but ready to be corrected.
How we should respond to the tragic death of this child is a matter on which people can have differing opinions. That having a child with Downs blesses some people's lives and makes it more joyful is a matter of fact.
Unpopular but correct opinion: a lot of this guy’s concerns are valid, and it’s a massive cope when pro-lifers try to sanctimoniously brush aside the debilitating effects of down syndrome or talk about it as a “blessing.”
Nevertheless, killing your own child is not acceptable in any circumstance. This is the argument we should be making, not that the child’s condition will lead to a more “joyful” life or whatever (it won’t).

@TylerWitwitty@JamieCauldren@jdflynn@LilaGraceRose The level of harm inflicted? I've seen hundreds of parents of children with Down's tweeting today about the level of good these children "inflicted" on them. Doesn't that come into your analysis at all?
I haven't watched any of Msgr Rossetti's talks, but this one seems to me to be very moderate and also obviously sensible and in keeping with the Church's teachings.
For all the parents out there dealing with a decision... let me give you another perspective
In 2018 my wife and I went in for our 20? week ultra sound at Beth Israel in Boston... the rep was very quiet the whole time, something seemed off. My wife & I were first time parents... didn't have much context. The doctor pulled us into her office and told us our sons nuchal fold was abnormally large... she went on to say there is a significant increased chance of Down Syndrome and even Turner's syndrome... talked about options to terminate the pregnancy. My wife was inconsolable, rightly so ... even thinking about it now brings back a lot of heavy emotions because of how hard of a day it was... hard...
I did a lot of research on the topic ... my wife & I prayed non stop about it. All we could do. The doctors wanted to do an amniocentesis which has its own host of risks..run more tests...
We came to the conclusion, which was not easy... it didn't matter... no amnio, no more tests.... I felt in my soul the Lord's plan was perfect and if our son was going to have Down Syndrome we would love him and shepherd him through this world the best we could. We get what we get. Anything from the Lord was a BLESSING and I was not going to point my finger at Him
Fast forward to today... our son is going to be 8 in the fall. He is perfect. Just hit a homerun the other day... a much better baseball player than I was at his age. My best friend
I share this deeply personal story for nothing more than to give just ONE parent hope... the Lord's plan is perfect... stay the course
📢 Breaking news!!!!!
FOURTEEN Catholic bishops will be attending this year's annual March for Life on Sept 5th in London. The Church is standing firm on the issue of life - make sure you're there to stand alongside.
@poldek34@BCJCarter Many people knew Latin when Rome ruled their countries. How likely is it that for instance the tax collector knew no Latin? Or that St Paul, who took his case to Rome, knew no latin?
I love this. You (maybe) don't. I don't object to concelebrated Masses. Others do. If the Church permits something, why can't we all just let others do what they do? As soon as I saw this video on X I knew there would be people who just didn't get it.
