Advice/Tips wanted: What if all 8th graders were enrolled in Algebra 1/8th grade math and had the opportunity to earn credit for Algebra 1, whether or not they were previous tracked for accelerated? #MTBoS#iteachmath
Happy #NationalTeachersDay! We are so appreciative of everything teachers do (including fostering a love of STEM in their students)! A special shout out to the inaugural cohort of 14 DoD STEM Teacher Ambassadors!
Do you know the Aesop Fable The crow and the pitcher? I did a version of that to introduce the concept of rate of change to my Algebra 1 class. How many marbles do you think it took to raise the water level from 80mL to 100mL? @mathequalslove@NCTM#MTBoS
@robertkaplinsky And whenever I think things like this, I take a moment to consider how much more self-discipline we are asking of our students right now.
@MrKitMath If you take two tries to get your license, you aren't restricted to driving only on weekdays. If students demonstrate full understanding, they should earn full credit. No matter how many tries.
@robertkaplinsky@openmiddle I noticed she didn't quite grasp the no repetition part. Might suggest the numbers 1-5 be cut out so they could be moved and rearranged. Maybe with visuals of each value as well for some kiddos.
Extremely useful structure for notice & wonder. ๐
Groups chat & then select three questions to share out โ one they think ...
1. is unique to their group.
2. they could use math to answer.
3. that's just fun.
Learned it from watching Kellie Stilson @115yhs just now. ๐
Quite possibly my favorite low-floor, high-ceiling 3-act task. All students were successful on part 1 and the sequel provided ample challenge and extension for those students that were ready for more. https://t.co/LrjOZrpgNh Thanks @ddmeyer@MrOrr_geek@MathletePearce#iteachmath
Hey @Desmos can you add a way for a teacher to mark that we have checked over an open ended question from the summary view? I end up re-checking the same ones over and over during live instruction.
@cmmteach I focus on a zombie apocalpyse discussion whenever possible. Ex. How long will humanity survive if each zombie can infect 2 others every day? When does the exponential model fail?
