As a medical school professor, I used to tell patients to "eat healthy fats." But the type of olive oil matters more than we ever taught.
A new study in Microbiome (Feb 2026) tracked 650 adults for 2 years and found that extra virgin olive oil protects the brain through the gut.
Key findings from the PREDIMED-Plus trial:
-- 4+ tablespoons/day of EVOO preserved cognitive function over 2 years
-- Higher EVOO intake increased gut microbiome diversity
-- Refined olive oil showed no cognitive benefit
-- The gut-brain axis mediated the protective effect
The polyphenols in EVOO feed beneficial gut bacteria that produce anti-inflammatory compounds. These travel to the brain and protect neurons from metabolic damage.
Not all olive oil is the same. Refined versions lose the polyphenols. Only extra virgin delivers the protection.

@Hickey93 Agreed, Road America made life too easy at turn 1 to accommodate NASCAR drivers inability to judge their braking.
Do away with the runoff already!
I am packaging up my Microsoft 365 Quality System to give away for free.
It includes the lists, the app code, and the exact architecture map to replace paper forms.
But the name?
If you were drowning in pen to paper inspections, which of these links would you actually click?
