Thank you @TransLink for sending buses up to the Burnaby Mountain to pick us up! Drivers diligently took us home the best they could (our driver even cheered us up along the way). Stay warm and safe everyone!
Attending a conference in-person!! Sounds like a very remote thing now. But nothing beats the face-to-face interaction. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. #MobileHCI2022
What is the most over the top email request for having you to be their supervisor? This one is high up there:
“I can only see my dream becoming reality under your supervision.”
@elginskye I don’t develop VR games but my theory is, if the tracking is done via the headset, 1) finger tracking is still a bit finicky and is prone to occlusion, and 2) it means the player’s hands have to be always held up so it’s not very ergonomic for long sessions.

@Audreygirouard Also no matter what, submitting a paper is a big deal so I want them to know. At the same time, if it is their first time, let them know acceptance rate is typically around 20-30% so hope for the best but it’s not the end if it gets rejected.
@Audreygirouard I’m not a supervisor but if I was going to debrief with my students I’d first ask how do they think they have done — a bit of self-reflection, and then I can build from there.
Super helpful advice! Re 5/9, we can tell if it’s just a generic template just by glance… for me who isn’t even looking for students I got emails that are essentially the same. If you don’t put in the effort don’t expect we do.
Thread with advice on applying to #grad school:
Finding a good supervisor is more important than being in the better university on paper/ranking. You want to be in a good environment to do research for a few years. You should get along with your supervisor. (1/9)
