Young people are very honest with their lives. Which is why its nice seeing them tweet their thoughts.
Once people get older, they won't admit their life isn't good. They come up with reasons why everything is fine. It's logical, if you take that line of thought forward it doesn't end well.
Dutch transport company Arriva has instructed conductors and enforcement officers on the Emmen-Zwolle Vechtdallijn, a train route in the Netherlands used by asylum seekers traveling from the country’s main asylum center in Ter Apel, to let fare-dodgers go if a ticket inspection threatens to become unsafe, following years of aggression and violence on the route.
The problem frequently begins when someone without a ticket is unable or unwilling to provide identification. Police then have to be called before a fine can be issued, requiring an average wait of around 25 minutes. Arriva says confrontations can escalate into aggression during that period.
In just the first two weeks under the new instruction, fare-dodgers were allowed to leave without being fined on at least 16 occasions.
Serious incidents on the line, including violence, vandalism and spitting at staff, increased from 29 in 2024 to 51 in 2025. Another 25 have already been recorded in 2026. A female enforcement officer was punched in the face late last year. Less serious incidents, including drug use and misuse of emergency brakes, are not included in those figures.
August is the month when the effects of summer have accumulated.
There was an ancient warning attached the danger of the dog days. By the end of summer, people are prone to bad judgment if they are not careful.
