Alright, genuine question for the privacy maxis. $ZEC is leading the “privacy wave” right now, and I get why. With global regulations tightening, the need for privacy is real.
But here’s the dilemma $ZEC is still a highly volatile asset, just like Bitcoin. That makes it hard to use as a payment base. If your “private money” swings 10% a day, no one’s really going to accept it for transactions. And when you trace it further, the core privacy premise still breaks down. You might stay anonymous on-chain, but the moment you off-ramp through existing rails, you’re trackable again. So what you’re left with is a token that promises privacy, but at the cost of volatility and limited usability. It sounds great in theory, but do we really need it in practice?
I know this touches the same nerve as Bitcoin’s “censorship resistance” argument, but I’m trying to understand where privacy tokens actually fit in today’s crypto landscape.

a middle class employee in Nigeria, steady job, steady income, pays taxes; walks into a lender and gets quoted 64% annual interest just to borrow against their own incoming salary. not because they're a bad borrower. but because there's no infrastructure that can prove otherwise. @0xnamaan was spot on when he said "ease of doing business in any country is upstream of one thing: how cheap and easy it is to get credit"

i've watched a lot of people try to "solve finance for Africa." most of them build a nice app, raise a round, and then quietly discover that the hard part was never the app. it was: where does the money actually come from? how do you know who to lend to? and when someone doesn't pay. what do you actually do about it?

they distribute through regulated fintechs, which means compliance without chasing licenses, and thousands of borrowers with a single integration. fiat rails for last mile. the whole thing actually connects to the real world.
