The woman who gave Trump $250M and put him in the White House just revealed that she got him to approve a bill merging the U.S. and Israel military for the express purpose of “making America hurt” if Israel hurts.

Here’s the hard truth for you, and for everyone who reaches for the political boogeyman every time somebody on our side tries to have a real conversation:

My wife and I don’t sit around stressing over whether some politician is going to “trans” our boys. Our ten-year-old son is on the spectrum, and we know firsthand the challenges of managing an atypical life where crisis can become routine.

What we worry about is feeding him and his brother. Paying the mortgage and homeowners insurance on the house we’re raising them in. Giving both boys a quality education that meets their individual needs. Having enough money left over for the therapies our son needs, or even the hygiene and laundry products it takes to keep him and his clothes clean.

And then there’s everything life has already thrown at us.

Since @realDonaldTrump has taken office, we’ve had to replace the refrigerator. We’ve had to replace the clothes washer. We’ve had to replace the central AC. Those aren’t hypothetical “what ifs.” They happened. And because the ever growing cost of everyday life has consumed what we once had in savings, we’ve had to take out promotional credit lines just to cover those expenses when they hit.

Now we’re trying to get those same-as-cash balances paid off before the next unavoidable household expense comes along.

Oh, and the dishwasher took a shit two months ago and has been a decorative kitchen appliance ever since. Its replacement is currently typing this response to you.

So no, Matt, “transing my kids” isn’t what we’re worried about.

We’re worried about raising them, providing for them, keeping a roof over their heads, meeting their individual needs, and somehow staying ahead of the next bill.

And here’s the hardest truth for candidates on the ballot this year: Those are the things I expect any leader who wants my vote to be worried about too.

Joe Rogan and Andrew Huberman look up how many Americans die from medical error each year, and the answer floors them both.

ROGAN: “Okay, so medical error is responsible for 251,000 deaths a year.”

That number comes from a 2016 Johns Hopkins study published in the BMJ. It estimated medical errors kill 251,454 Americans a year, which makes them the third leading cause of death, behind only heart disease and cancer.

And it gets worse. A 2023 Johns Hopkins and Harvard study found that misdiagnosis alone kills an estimated 371,000 Americans a year and leaves another 424,000 permanently disabled.

If an airline killed that many people, nobody would ever board a plane again.

America’s corporate governance system is broken, and it’s killing public companies. Look no further than Cracker Barrel: Decades of brutal mismanagement have seen one incompetent CEO after another walk away with a massive paycheck while customers and actual shareholders take a beating.

Why does this keep happening? Because proxy advisory firms like ISS are corrupt. They blindly rubber-stamp failing boards year after year, protecting the corporate elite while burning shareholder value to the ground.

The root of the rot is index funds. There's no question that indexing one's money is a smart financial move for most people. But just because you passively index your investments doesn't mean your corporate votes should be handed over to the managers of your fund so they can play politics. Right now, passive funds hold massive, unchecked voting blocks while having zero skin in the game themselves.

It is time for a simple rewrite of the rules: We need to index the votes of index fund investors.

Passive index funds should be forced to automatically split their votes to proportionately mirror those of retail and active institutional shareholders — the people actually doing the research, risking their capital, and fighting for performance in the companies they hold shares in. No more rubber-stamping. A change like this will immediately strip corrupt gatekeepers like ISS of their toxic influence.

True accountability happens when lazy, overpaid boards actually answer to the stakeholders they represent, rather than screwing them over.

Actual, logic-driven governance when your money is passive happens when your vote passively follows the voting decisions of the actual market.

We need to stop letting passive capital protect active incompetence. By stripping index funds of their arbitrary voting power and empowering engaged investors, we will finally torch corporate cronyism and usher American capital markets into a golden age of capitalism.
