I'll never forget the day Kenya Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stood before the country and told Kenyans that Albert Ojwang had died after repeatedly hitting his head against a cell wall.

That statement has since been severely undermined by the evidence that emerged. Kenyans deserve to know who authorized that narrative, why it was presented as fact, and whether anyone will be held accountable for misleading the public.

A police spokesperson's duty is to inform the public truthfully, not to amplify falsehoods or premature conclusions.
