Excellent event with Dave McKerracher (@theoryundrgrnd) and Tony Chamas (@1DimeOfficial) that we will be covering in our Monthly Roundup this week and with an in-depth report later this month.

Incredible 6-day event at McKerracher family farm in north Idaho! Thanks to the Dave (@theoryundrgrnd) and the rest of the McKerracher family for hosting and to the 10 others who came from across the country (and London) to participate!

The event had two parts:

(1) TUCon: The annual in-person event for Theory Underground, Dave's online philosophy school, which blended intellectual discussions with farming activities (which relate to his philosophical thinking).

The event featured talks by Dave and Tony Chamas (@1DimeOfficial) about their forthcoming book "Post Left Theory," which details why they each left or distanced themselves from the Left. They condemn "wokeness" but go deeper. They analyze why the Left went crazy and what new frontiers of philosophical, cultural, and political thought their intellectual liberations have opened up.

Dave invited me to give my first official talk about The Piraeus (@ThePiraeus). He interviewed me about it in front of the farm with group Q&A after (video coming soon). We explored how our visions of connecting grassroots groups in-person aligned. He recently described it as the "Fourth Frontier," a network of fourth places that define Internet 4.0, a fundamentally new way of organizing community in digital age (one with different incentives, dynamics, and other structures).

(2) CanonFest: The pre-release of "Canon: The Liberating Arts Trading Card Game"—a precursor the official launch of Dave's new Western-Canon themed that aims to help raise Canon literacy in our culture.

Though just a pre-print, the cards already looked beautiful and were a big hit with the group. Each card featured a famous thinker—Plato, Heidegger, Marx, Illich, Aquinas, Strauss, Arendt, Freud, Homer, etc.—or one of his books. We spent hours looking at the cards and playing the game; trading others for foil versions of our favorite thinkers (I for Plato, Tony for Strauss, Dave for Heidegger); and even making a few funny (obviously staged) video skits to help Dave advertise the Kickstarter campaign.

I've always been impressed by Dave's ambition and his vision to help sow the seeds for a long-term revival of American culture and education. This event (my second trip to the farm) let me learn a lot more about it and introduced me to a great community of people passionate about this mission.

Great ideas on Post-Left theory by Theory Underground (@theoryundrgrnd) and Tony Chamas (@1DimeOfficial)—the subject of their forthcoming book which we got an advance copy of at TUCON.

Hearing this first hand with the group at the beautiful lake Pond Ereille in Northern Idaho. Some ideas discussed:

➤ Woke is not dead, despite people on Left distancing themselves from it.

The evolution of woke discourse. Wokeness still in DSA/NDP platforms (“point of privilege” for minority speakers to cut in line, border abolition, etc.)

“No war but the culture war” → culture war cannot be laughed off/excused for class war as many on Left would like to do.

Zeitgeist is raging on: Jason Ardey plagiarism scandal, women supporting Lindsey Clancy murders, WNBA bringing on trans players.

➤ Post-left is a frontier—a horizon of possibilities—not an ideology.

Post-Left theory asks why modern Left went crazy.
Why does Post-left theory go beyond Anarchism, Marxism, and Vibes? What possibilities are open on the new frontier? The book addresses these questions.

Post-left theory refuses to identify with a historical or ideal Left (it critiques the actually existing Left).
One critique is that the Ideal Left’s revolutionary subject—the proletariat—no longer exists (for many reasons, which their book goes in to).

➤ Post-Left theory is a theory of vibes. (Dave)

But not just “feeling things out” with no theoretical grounding, as many Leftists do today.

The theory provides an analysis of “vibes” that takes its bearing from Heidegger’s analysis of attunement or state of mind (Befindlichkeit).

It is a theory that looks beyond our ideologies and intuitions. There we find fundamental dispositions (eg, conservatives have different disposition than progressives, prior to any surface ideology). It is on the basis of these dispositions that modern society has segregated us today.

➤ Just one of the many talks and activities at TUCON this weekend.

Others included: tours of McKerracher family farm (built from scratch), days out at the lake with the group, late nights discussing Heidegger and other philosophers, and the release of Canon TCG—a new card game TU created which features great thinkers throughout history and your quest to build and read a canon of their books.

Card game was a big hit this afternoon. Could have a big impact on canon literacy in our culture, especially homeschooling and alternative education movement IMO.

Excellent event to a packed house last night in Nashville!

@ScottMGreer gave a great overview of the online right's success in radically changing public discourse and policy, especially around immigration—and why this change is not going away anytime soon.

Great insights into the perils of online organizing as well:
- From his book: that a lot of 2010's right-wing communities mistook online presence (retweets, likes, etc.) for capacity to mobilize in-person.
- From last night: That in-person events like The Pamphleteer's can prevent nasty infighting that online groups often degenerate into.

What I'm seeing is a huge push towards in-person events in the past few years. This is what I'm writing about at @ThePiraeus. It is happening across the country, especially in Nashville.

Just last night I met a half dozen people founding local groups: promoting Southern heritage, teaching leadership in local and national politics, hosting conferences to debate the future of the right.

Many of them were just getting started or were founded in the past year. There was a huge crowd from Nashville but also many people who drove from Knoxville, Kentucky, and other places hours away.

Thanks to @vrgldh and @realpamphleteer for the great work they are doing organizing these events and the community in and around Nashville!
