Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) scoring is changing how we predict heart disease.
In our review, we analyzed 109 studies and found that CAC detects risk far better than traditional calculators helping guide statin & aspirin decisions with real precision.

Traditional risk scores (like age, cholesterol, BP) don’t always catch who will actually get heart disease.

CAC is a CT scan that shows the amount of calcium in heart arteries.
More calcium = higher risk.
Zero calcium = very low chance of a heart attack in the next few years.

CAC predicts heart attack & stroke risk far better than older calculators.
🔹 A CAC score of 0 means you may safely avoid unnecessary statins.
🔹 CAC ≥100 strongly supports starting statins ± aspirin.
🔹 AI tools can detect CAC on routine chest CT scans — making screening cheaper & easier.

Using CAC can prevent:
✔ Overtreating low-risk people
✔ Undertreating truly high-risk people
✔ Unnecessary lifelong medications
