This argument overlooks one inconvenient fact.

Morocco recognized the State of Palestine decades before Spain did.

Morocco has consistently supported the two-state solution.

King Mohammed VI chairs the Al-Quds Committee, dedicated to preserving the Arab and Islamic character of Jerusalem.

Morocco has repeatedly sent humanitarian aid directly to the Palestinian population.

If support for Palestine is supposedly what triggered this crisis, why would Morocco—whose support predates Spain’s by decades—participate in punishing Spain for taking positions Morocco itself has long defended?

Nine hundred years of Muslim life in Iberia ended in the Inquisition and the expulsion of 1609, three hundred thousand people deported to Africa as foreigners. Five hundred years of European rule in Ceuta and Melilla continues today as belonging. A Muslim enclave in Granada would be an invasion. A European enclave in Morocco is a border.
