أحد أكبر الأوهام السياسية، وربما إحدى أكبر مآسي الشرق الأوسط، كان إقناع الملايين بأن إسرائيل هي العدو الرئيسي، بينما كانت بلدانهم تُستنزف وتُدمَّر من الداخل.

باسم "القضية الفلسطينية"، طُلب من الشعوب العربية تأجيل الديمقراطية، والتنمية، والحريات، والإصلاح السياسي�� والتغاضي عن الفساد والاستبداد.

وفي الوقت نفسه، دفعت سوريا ولبنان والعراق ودول أخرى ثمناً باهظاً لمشاريع أيديولوجية قومية وإسلاموية، لكنها لم تنتج سوى الحروب والانقسامات والتخلف والخراب، بينما كانت تخدع الملايين وتبيع لهم أوهاماً سياسية باسم المقاومة والتحرير.

فكم دولة عربية يجب أن تنهار بعد، وكم جيل يجب أن يُهدر، قبل أن نعترف بأن المشكلة لم تكن في إسرائيل بقدر ما كانت في الأفكار البالية التي حكمتنا لعقود؟

المستقبل لا يُبنى بالكراهية ولا بالعيش على المظالم التاريخية، بل بالسلام والتعايش والازدهار وبناء مؤسسات قوية ومجتمعات قادرة على الحياة.

فالأ��م التي تمجّد الحياة تتقدم، أما الأمم التي تمجّد الموت والثأر فتبقى أسيرة الماضي.

الشيء الوحيد القادر على حماية مجتمعات الشرق الأوسط من الأيديولوجيات العنيفة والمدمرة هو امتلاك الشجاعة لمواجهتها فكرياً، وسياسياً، وثقافياً، وبناء مؤسسات قوية تحمي سيادة القانون وتحافظ على الدولة.

لكن ذلك لا يكفي وحده.

فالمعركة الحقيقية هي الاستثمار في جيل جديد مسلح بالعلم، والتفكير النقدي، والانفتاح على العالم، وقادر على العيش بسلام مع جيرانه بدلاً من البقاء أسيراً لدورات لا تنتهي من الصراع والكراهية.

وللأسف، أمضت المنطقة عقوداً طويلة في التعايش مع التطرف والطائفية والميليشيات، ومحاولة تبريرها أو احتوائها أو إعادة تدويرها، بدلاً من مواجهتها والتخلص منها جذرياً.

وربما لهذا السبب ما زلنا ندفع الثمن حتى اليوم.

حزب الله وإيران لم يدمّرا لبنان فقط، بل شاركا في قتل وتهجير وتدمير الشعب السوري باسم "المقاومة" و"القضية الفلسطينية" وشعارات ثبت فشلها أخلاقياً وسياسياً وإنسانياً.

وكما بدأ كثير من اللبنانيين يدركون حقيقة هذه الأيديولوجيا، على السوريين أيضاً أن يدركوا أن الخروج من هذه الحلقة المفرغة لا يكون بمزيد من الشعارات، بل ببناء دولة حديثة، ومؤسسات قوية، وسلام حقيقي مع الجيران على غرار النموذج الإماراتي.

المعركة الحقيقية ليست مع إسرائيل، بل مع الأفكار التي أبقت المنطقة أسيرة الحروب والكراهية لعقود.

وحان الوقت لبناء جيل جديد يؤمن بالتعايش والسلام والازدهار، لا بالصراعات التي لم تنتج سوى الخراب.

وينطبق الأمر نفسه على السوريين.

إذا كنت سورياً - وما زلت لا تدرك أن مستقبل بلدك يعتمد على إعادة بناء سوريا، لا على مواصلة المعارك الأيديولوجية الموروثة من القرن الماضي، فماذا علمتنا خمسة عشر عاماً من الحرب؟

Now, you probably think that you hate Israel because "Palestine." But remember, Palestinians seek their own interests and so should you.

Lebanese and Palestinian interest can converge or diverge. This time it happens that they diverge. No shame. No foul. Lebanon should seek its interests with the Jewish state. Be realistic. Be smart. Think of your interests, and let Palestinians (and Iranians) figure out their own.

The main problem in my view is
that the modern activist Left and self-described progressives seem increasingly willing to rationalise, condone, excuse, or simply look away from antisemitism when it arrives wrapped in the language of "social justice" or "anti-colonialism."

For decades, Lebanon paid the price of becoming an arena for other people's wars, ideologies, and ambitions. Only after immense destruction did the idea of state sovereignty begin to regain its appeal.

Sometimes nations do not change because they are persuaded. They change because reality leaves them no alternative.

The question is how many others in the region still need to learn the same lesson.

One of the Middle East's and Muslims in general great tragedies is that too many people were taught to define themselves by what they oppose rather than by what they can build.

When an ideology becomes incapable of seeing Jews, Israelis, or even dissenting Muslims as legitimate human beings with rights and agency, it ceases to be a path to justice and becomes an obstacle to peace.

The future belongs to societies confident enough to move beyond grievance and strong enough to embrace reality.
