The most powerful habit for writers to improve their relationships:
Better Communication
Over the past 4 years, I've focused on communication every day—and along the way I've learned:
• Speech = identity
• New info puts the other in a box
• Communication starts in the body

My goal: Play long-term games with long-term people.
I'm not chasing 20K followers, I'm here to help 2-4 people grow their revenue.
And after I've partnered with a few dozen people and helped them reach their online business goals, I'll analyze the results, package the process, and share it with hundreds of others who could benefit.
This is how we grow together.
Persuasive writing is an art.
Getting better at it takes practice.
I've started copying old sales letters from master copywriters like Gary Halbert.
Copying them helps me study them.
Copying them by hand or on a typewriter forces me to slow down so that each word and sentence gradually unfolds.
As I copy them word for word, my brain can unpack the structure and what the writer is trying to achieve.
After finishing a copy, I go through my version and add my thoughts in the margins.
Yes, this is work.
But it's also fascinating and I've noticed a change in my writing.
This post, for example, has been structured to persuade you of the value of manual writing practice.
So, what do you think?
Is this a good way to practice persuasive writing?

Here are 4 reasons why anyone struggling with a job loss should start taking online courses:
• Meeting new people
• Learning in-demand skills
• Learning cutting-edge techniques
• Discovering new and novel opportunities
I've experienced all of these the last 4 months.
@MarioG_DaSilva Yes, it all starts with books. I’m not a huge fiction guy. I usually read nonfiction. But this year I’ve been working on War & Peace and it’s been nice getting back into a story.
The single most powerful habit for writing better:
Read books
Over the last 10 yrs, I’ve read a book every single month—and along the way, I’ve:
• Written thousands of articles
• Authored award-winning newspaper columns
But I always return to books. They are foundational.
Follow this 4 step framework for better long-form reading:
• Scan headlines
• Scan main points
• Scan sub points
• Scan bullet points
This framework reveals the outline of the piece so you can decide if it's worth reading the entire thing.
You'll save a ton of time.
Hard skills get you hired.
But soft skills get you promoted.
I went from sports reporter to managing editor in 2 years.
Here are 4 soft skills to accelerate your career:
1) Focus
2) Innovate
2) Iterate
3) Communicate
@dickiebush Man, you are outlining almost all the major personal choices I’m making right now. Not a humble brag. Just getting a dopamine boost hinting I’m on a good path.
@supermanuelsaez@StuLierich Yesss, thank you for that. And, if it were easy to implement and it didn’t take any intention or effort, I guess that would defeat the point.
It’s a fucking miracle to be alive.
Out of all the billions of circumstances that had to exist, in just the right proportions at just the right time, it’s an incredible impossibility that I’m alive.
It’s incredible you’re alive, reading this.
It’s a fucking miracle.
