In January 2016, Iran’s IRGC detained 10 U.S. Navy sailors after two American military boats entered Iranian territorial waters near Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf.

The sailors were travelling from Kuwait to Bahrain when one boat suffered engine trouble.

Both stopped — unknowingly inside Iranian waters.

Armed IRGC personnel approached, boarded the boats at gunpoint and escorted the crews to Farsi Island.

No shots were fired.

The 9 men and 1 woman were held for approximately 15 hours before being released unharmed on January 13, following diplomatic negotiations involving U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.

The U.S. apologized to secure the sailors’ release.

Iran did not just start humiliating the U.S. now.

On 21 October 1956, British colonial forces captured Dedan Kimathi, Kenya’s legendary freedom fighter.

On 18 February 1957, they hanged him at Kamiti Prison and buried him in an unmarked grave.

He was only 36.

Kimathi fought against a colonial system that stole African land, entrenched racial inequality and violently suppressed resistance.

The British called him a terrorist. To those fighting for liberation, he was a Field Marshal fighting for Kenya’s freedom.

During his capture, he was shot in the hip. Colonial authorities proceeded with his trial while he was still seriously wounded. After an eight-day trial, he was sentenced to death for possessing a firearm and ammunition.

At approximately 6 a.m. on 18 February 1957, the British colonial government executed him.

They buried his body in an unmarked grave. His final resting place remains unknown.

Think about the cruelty of it all.

They stole African land, criminalised resistance, hunted freedom fighters and executed those who dared to challenge their rule.

And they called it law and order.

Colonisation was evil beyond words.

They hanged Dedan Kimathi, but they could never hang the dream of a free Kenya. 🇰🇪✊🏾
