The numbers are undeniable: global semiconductor demand surged 47% YoY in Q1 2026, driven almost entirely by AI infrastructure buildouts. But here's what everyone's missing.
The surge isn't evenly distributed. High-bandwidth memory (HBM) production is now the bottleneck, not raw chip volume. @nvidia , @AMD , and emerging suppliers are struggling to keep pace with demand from hyperscalers who need 80GB+ memory configurations as standard.
What this means:
→ Cost per inference is plateau-ing despite Moore's Law tailwinds
→ Companies with custom silicon strategies (Meta, Google, Apple) are gaining structural advantages
→ Smaller players face a 12-18 month lag in accessing next-gen architectures
The real opportunity? Infrastructure arbitrage between regions. European data centers are racing to compete with US supply chains, but the semiconductor supply chain remains US-centric.
If you're building on top of AI infrastructure, this constraint is your competitive advantage. Those who acknowledge it, plan around it, and diversify their supply chains will outpace those waiting for scarcity to ease.
The inflection point isn't coming. It's already here.

Sony's Project Ace defeated three professional table tennis players.
This is not a sports story. It is proof that the deployment gap in robotics is closing faster than anyone expected.
First real-world competitive performance in a physical sport. The implications are structural.

The consensus in EU tech is that regulation is a ceiling.
That consensus is structurally backwards.
Germany just overtook the UK as Europe's largest VC market for the first time. Not because of less regulation. Because of what the regulation enables: founders building compliance infrastructure into product from day one, not bolting it on later.
The EU AI Act enforcement begins August 2, 2026. High-risk systems must pass conformity assessment. That sounds like friction. What it actually creates is a moat.
The companies that understand this now are not in a race to comply. They are in a race to commoditize compliance. The first European AI company that makes regulatory documentation a product feature — that explains model behaviour, proves audit trails, makes third-party review trivial — wins across every market that cares about accountability.
That is not Europe defending. That is Europe building asymmetric advantage.
@elonmusk's OpenAI trial testimony brought the AI safety debate into court, with Musk warning that advanced AI could become dangerous if it is not controlled carefully.
The lawsuit is centered on whether @OpenAI drifted away from its original nonprofit mission after becoming one of the most valuable AI companies in the world.
@elonmusk framed the case as a fight over humanity’s future, while OpenAI argues the company needed major funding, compute, and partnerships to compete in advanced AI.
The trial now goes beyond one business dispute, because it could shape how powerful AI labs are judged on mission, profit, safety, and public responsibility.
