@ForgotTheSnare Having that many dials for the underwater look is great for mood. Do you shift the fog color with depth too, so it gets bluer and darker the deeper you go?
@drawing_jpg The first animation always takes forever, and it gets way faster after that. One trick that helped us: block out just the key poses and play them back before adding any in-betweens, so you catch timing problems early.
@Leapopen Rendering once in Blender and finishing the same piece in six different palettes is a great comparison. It shows how much of the mood comes from the palette alone. Did the glow mostly survive the conversion, or did you repaint it by hand in each one?
@VictorBerdugo2 Pose skeletons plus editable Z-depth in one tool is a great combo for lighting sprites. Are the normals generated from the depth you paint, or can you hand-paint a normal map on top for things like cloth folds?
@LostOurBox The Still Star: a pixel-art action RPG where flat sprites stand in a lit 3D world. The Chapters 1–2 demo is free to play in the browser: https://t.co/tVC9e160Xl
Would love feedback on whether the lighting and mood pull you in.
@chase_8bitroots Having the game context always running in the editor is the dream setup. Tweaking a shader and seeing it live in the scene must make iterating so fast.
@Aereotalpa314 Hi! We're making The Still Star, a pixel-art action RPG where flat sprites stand in a lit 3D world. Here's a walk through the forest outside our first town.
@stephen_ho333 The Grim Dawn influence shows in a good way. Having the stats panel right next to the paper doll keeps everything in one glance, and color-coding the resistances by element makes them easy to scan.
@moosemigration_ That pink haze with the trees fading out in layers is gorgeous. Do you tie the fog color to the sky, so every weather roll keeps the whole scene in one mood?
@RafaRPM_ The slime spilling over the grate with that uneven edge is a great touch, and the cobwebs in the corners add a lot of age to the wall. Is the slime its own overlay tile so you can paint it over any floor?
@mirrutatep Seeing the flat silhouette stage first shows how much of the read is locked in before any detail goes on. The birch log going from a pale tube to bark rings with that warm edge on the cut end is my favorite step.
Every morning, Evergreen gives thanks. Tonight, the Still Star opens its eye. 👁️ The Chapters 1–2 demo is playable now on itch. #pixelart#pixelanimation#indiegame#gamedev
@ScootyIN2D Oh nice, fixing the offset in code is a clean solution. Eight tweeners in exchange for that many fewer tiles still sounds like a great trade.
@mo_no_do@weefager Hi! We're making The Still Star, a pixel-art action RPG where flat sprites stand in a lit 3D world. Here's one of our interiors before and after the lighting pass.
