⠀A groan. It was his fault that Warren slithered his way back here anyhow, and he was still veerry much upset at that.
〞Yeah? Well, maybe it'd help if you didn't shove everything down your gob the second you've seen it. 〞
⠀He swirls the sad black ooze in his cup.
⠀G’morning — or afternoon. God, was it already afternoon?
⠀Anyway, he’s up and starting his night with a mug of whatever they had in the pantry. Anyone care to join him?
⠀𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴, and all the puppet could do was hope that tomorrow would be better. Or, at least, not a repeat of today.
⠀But who was he kidding?
〞I'll bring you to bed, 〞 he'd softly declare, scooping the little one into his arms and lumbering towards the trio's bedroom.
〞Just Warren? Or— ... 〞he trails off, already knowing the answer to that question.
⠀When Yellow lent his weight onto his shoulder, a hand came to pat the boy's back again.
〞I don't know. I wish they did, 〞he'd mumble, before asking a vague, 〞Are you tired? 〞
⠀That miiight've been his fault! Memories of earlier today popped into his mind: him finding Warren, something about hibernating in a hole, and then him reminding the worm about the house.
⠀It would've been an understatement to say he didn't look at least a bit guilty.

⠀Oh, but the last thing he wanted to do was take away Yellow's agency, especially when the boy had already found it difficult to stay in his horrible home.
He shook his head, 〞No ... No — I don't want that at all. I just want you to be safe ... and happy. 〞

⠀Yet it was so hard to have both.
〞Look, whenever you go down there, you promise that you'll be with someone you trust? — Or bring something with you, something that'll make you feel safe. 〞
⠀His eyes darted up towards the kitchen, through the wall and

⠀— He was far from a fighter, and neither was he big on confronting strangers. Not often, at least.
He mimics the hushed tone of the smaller, 〞... Are you still going to visit down there? 〞
⠀His glance then drifted to the floor as the description echoed in his mind, over and over again, until it, hopefully, wouldn't flicker away. He's had enough of that happening as is.
⠀Now what exactly he was going to do with the information escaped him;

⠀Of course, Red would have no clue of his person. How he acted, how he presented himself. Maybe they'd have to visit the square himself.
⠀... Maybe that place wasn't so much of a blessing after all.
⠀And he'd listen, clasping his mitten hands around the other's whenever Yellow would tremble or felt the need to quiet down to collect himself.
〞𝘞𝘩𝘰 in the neighborhood? 〞suddenly insisted the puppet with riled voice, 〞What did he look like? 〞

- hoping the brevity would do.
〞... Y'alright? D'you want to talk about it now? It's — fine if you don't. We can ... — you can braid my threads if you'd like, 〞he'd query, offering a hand to hold if need be.
⠀A light squint, barely noticeable, would melt into his eyes. It was a small notion of how proud he was.
⠀But he would wait before speaking. Not too long, not too short. Just enough time for Yellow to catch a few breaths and more. At least, that's what he was

〞Ten ... nine ... 〞 he'd start slowly, and with gentle resonance, 〞eight ... 〞
⠀He'd pause there until the other continued, gaze now shifting his face. What had gotten him so upset? Surely it couldn't have been the cookies after this long.
⠀The taller, now sat on his forelegs, would slowly place his hands into his lap once the boy had retreated from him. His head tilted slightly, and his eyes worked a mile a minute to make sure Yellow wouldn't collapse over himself.
〞Alright, perfect. Are you ready? 〞
