His movement was perfect, his timing was right, and the finish was exactly what you’d expect from one of the greatest goalscorers the game has ever seen. He shouldn’t be punished because the officials misread the situation.

Portugal have every right to feel hard done by. Goals change momentum, they change confidence, and they change football matches. Instead of celebrating a deserved equaliser, they’re left arguing about an offside that, for me, simply wasn’t there.

When I look at that replay, I don’t see an offside player.

I see a defender playing Ronaldo on.

I see a perfectly good goal.

And I see Portugal being denied a moment they deserved.”
