Born #OnThisDay in 1888 was seismologist and geophysicist Inge Lehmann ForMemRS. Lehmann is known for her 1936 discovery that the Earth's core must have a solid inner core inside a molten outer core. Before this, scientists believed that the core was a single molten sphere.
A team of scientists visited the new thermal area near Tern Lake to sample gases and measure temperatures. Today's #Yellowstone#CalderaChronicles shows how their data provide a snapshot into how thermal areas in Yellowstone develop.
