Tonight two ideas collided in my head - @doctorow's ensh!tt!fication and AI slop - which leads to ensloppification. Now I see that @latentgravity had the same idea a few months back. Rats.
But, this means we are now in the Ensloppocene - the Era of (AI-)Ensloppified Everything.
@alexburns@becstrating@latrobe@BuchananLiz@mcdesch Hi Alex, it was the AFI (Australian Foresight Institute) that was dis-established in 2005, but Peter, Rowena (@prospective) & I managed to keep the MSF running, despite a near-death experience at the end of that year. P & I managed it until 2016, then the teach-out by me in 2018.
@Anthony_Caruana@rik_ferguson@BBCNews@gcluley@pmarca@WSJ@vgr So, people who *knew* computing were already aware back then that it presented both great opportunity as well as great risk - as most potential new business models do. I confess I didn't pay enough attention to the privacy side, though: the G👀gle smokescreen had got in my eyes
@Anthony_Caruana@rik_ferguson@BBCNews@gcluley In fact, I have a hit from Aug 2011, from my old (thrice-removed) boss at Netscape, @pmarca, writing in the @WSJ. It's the famous "software is eating the world" piece, later ref'd by @vgr in the Breaking Smart series we used for teaching in the Master of Strategic Foresight
The last formal presentation I made at @Swinburne a week before COVID hit (& the subsequent "COVID redundancies" bit). The core message of seeking digital privacy in the "Surveillocene" (the era of 'surveillance everything') has only become more pointed.

@dislekcia@CathodeFlowers@unormal Or, it is just the sight of such a stupendous feat of engineering that inspires the galaxy's most tech advanced species to re-model their own, with the 'braid' of stars in the ring that signals back to the precursor: "hi! We see you!" A daisy chain through the Cosmos...
Dear @FermiGame - in case you are looking for an idea as to what a galaxy-scale civilisation might decide to do to its galaxy, perhaps take a look at this idea (which I hope the Breakthrough Initiative & Square Km Array will take a much closer look at):

@jkleske@incognitosum Neat-o. The idea of (literally) thousands of future states can be found in "morphological analysis" applied to futures. An example of this approach -- applied to SETI -- is discussed in the "Is Hoag's Object an 'engineered' galaxy?" post on my blog. https://t.co/gTgoDEQo5l
Twitter says it's my Twitter birthday from 12 years ago. But I actually joined in Sept 2008 to watch live-tweets of the Large Hadron Collider being fired up. I stayed maybe a week or two then signed out & deleted that account. This account is an experiment that is still running
@stephen_cragg @24bitwarrior @GlennLyons2 No, not the inventor -- simply a modifier and populariser (through teaching & research). The Futures Cone blog post details the lineage and background. Taylor, and Hancock & Bezold were using an early version of it back in the late 1980s; "preposterous" is mine, though ;-)
@WabiSabiFutures @schfrrn@thesjef From Foresight 2003;5(3)10-21, p.16:
"In relativity physics, there is a region outside the so-called "light-cone" which is unknowable except at some later time, owing to the finite speed of light. This is also a very useful reminder and metaphor for our forward views"
