FOREIGN NATIONALS FOUND WITH BLASTING CARTRIDGES | Two Congolese nationals, aged 23 and 32, have been arrested for unlawful possession of explosives after police seized 1,312 blasting cartridges valued at approximately R131 200 in Nancefield, Musina policing.

The arrests followed information received by police about a brown Suzuki with Gauteng registration numbers
suspected of transporting explosives. Members of SAPS traced and intercepted the vehicle at Musina at approximately 09:55.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a pink 50kg sack containing suspected explosives. The Bomb Technician Unit and the Musina Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) were summoned to the scene. The explosives were examined and confirmed to be 1,312 blasting cartridges with an estimated street value of R131 200.

The driver and his passenger were immediately arrested and charged with unlawful possession of explosives. The Musina Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) will conduct further investigations.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate's Court on Monday, 28 September 2026.

SAPS LED AND CONFISCATED COUNTERFEIT AND ILLICIT GOODS WORTH OVER R1.5 MILLION IN MIDDELBURG

SAPS in the Nkangala District, through Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit, has led the team that confiscated counterfeit and illicit goods worth over R1.5 MIL during a search and seizure in Middelburg.

The operation, which was conducted on Tuesday, 22/09 and Wednesday, 23/09, formed part of the ongoing multi-disciplinary efforts to combat the trade in counterfeit goods, illicit trade and foodborne-related contraventions.

The team comprised of members of the SAPS Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit, supported by sister departments including Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP) and the Department of Agriculture.

A case of selling counterfeit goods is being investigated. In addition, non-compliance notices were issued by the Environmental Health Practitioners and the Department of Agriculture and further action is anticipated.

The SAPS continues to warn business owners to refrain from selling counterfeit and illicit goods, as such products pose a serious health risk to consumers and undermine legitimate businesses.

Members of the public are urged to report the sale of counterfeit and illicit goods to their nearest police station, via #CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or through the #MySAPSApp that can be downloaded from any smartphone.
